If you are talking about the one behind the parking brake ,,that is the PCM ...the duct tape may be holding a chip in place ,,, If you remove it ,,make sure the key is OFF....

Yep, the Tape may be holding a chip in. As he said above, KEY OFF, and have them laying on the floorboard infront of your face! (Safety factor) Remove the chip, then try to start the truck, Heck, it may have been chipped, you didn't know it, and the chip went bad! (That would be a heck of a note, wouldn't it?)

Believe it or not I'd be willing to bet both injector harness under the valve cover came unplugged, happened to me, if one side comes completly apart, it wont start! A buzz test will help, but when the injector codes are for either all the odd injectors or the evens it kinda seals the deal! Oh an IDM runs about 800.00 from the stealership plus core!!!!
I try to keep things as simple as possible, I read all the posts and nobody mentioned this. The same happened to my 6.0 and It turned out to be one bad battery connection,,,It would crank but no start, It may not be the problem,,,But it sure would be cool if a simple battery load test or loose connection fixes your problem. Sounds electrical to me,,makes sence to start at the sourse. Good luck.

Well Guys, I just want to first and foremost thank everyone here for your expert opinions and analysis. It turns out that after all I went through, I couldn't figure it out so I broke down and sent it into the dealer.
It turns out that after installing three replacement CPS's (The last one being from the dealership) they were all bad. I asked the dealer mechanic after he replaced all of them if I had installed it incorrectly, and he assured me no, but that it was just bad luck that I had three from a bad batch.
Thanks again everyone for your expert opinions and analysis, it was much appreciated!

Considering it is high pressure oil that makes the injectors work, low oil level in the high pressure oil reservoir could have everything to do with the truck dying....
I just had the same exact problem with the my 99 F350 if you search the treads you will see mine under "Dealer Changed the CPS but the engine still suddenly dies driving down the road - Help!" thread ID is 210505. You can read what happened to me. Anyway, I had the dealer change the CPS. The CPS was replaced under recall, if you still have the original contact the dealer and they will change it. It may solve your problem. Unfortunetly it did not solve mine. I went back to the dealer and after 3 days of testing they concluded that my truck has a bad PCM. The orginal ower of my truck installed a chip that attaches directly to the PCM. I called Jody at DT Tuner, he suggested that since the chip was old that it was probably the thing that is causing the problem. He suggested I remove the chip and drive the truck. I removed the chip and so far (200 miles) no problems. So, if your truck has a old style chip like mine did. remove it and see it the truck will run. If not, start with the CPS. If you have a new style CPS, I suggest you pickup a or used PCM and that may solve your problems.
Good Luck.
I'm having the same problem with my truck. I have changed the CPS and it ran fine for about a week. Died three times on me yesterday and wa hard starting this morning but finally cranked after approx 10 times. I do have a stinger package...so could it be the chip? If so...how do I bypass to rule that out. If the oil level on the dip stick is full, can I assume that the HPOP is full or should I check that.

Did you change the CPS or under recall ?..
What kind did you replace it with ?...

Funny you ask. I replaced it less than 10k ago under the recall but I was having problems with it prior to the recall. After the recall work I had no problems for approx 7k....then BAMM...issues again!!! I delt with it for a few k and then took it back to the dealer and asked them to replace it. I was told it was not under warrenty due to the fact that it was replaced under recall and they did their part. So rather then going around and around with them, I just bought a new one and replaced it myself with the same grey one that did under the recall.

I can see why. It's says made in Mexico right on the package. I'll throw in one from International and give it a go.
Reguarding the HPOP.... Does if the oil level in the truck is full...is the HPOP full also?
Take the screw out of the top & take a look ..should be an inch or so from the top...
Long cranking & a poorely working LPOP ,usually will deplete the oil in the Res ....
