Last weekend I replaced all 6 rubber hoses for Intake and intercooler and I found my turbo intake hose from air cleaner ( between turbo and CCV plastic adapter ) was cracked 1/2 way around turbo flange on the back side, sucking unfiltered air. The boot was pretty dry and hard compared to the new one I ordered on monday. So you guys need to just squeeze your boots right at the turbo inlet flange to check for cracks. Part # F81Z-9C681-BA about $50.00, 37.00 online. 99-03 7.3

boomboom. I am replacing all of my rubber boots next Wednesday...just wandering, how long did it take you? I will also check the intake house tonight...thanks for posting.

You weren't getting some extra turbo whistle from that were you? Reason I ask, is I still haven't found the turbo whistle that developed after changing my up-pipes. I have re-done all the connections three times trying to find it. Perhaps I'll have to check the intake hose. Thanks for the tip.

I've seen the same crack on the intake tube on a 99. You just about have to stumble across it or know to look for it. Good tip.

Your turbo whistle is called boost. When you changed your up pipes, you fixed your boost leak (that apparently you didn't know you had). MPG's probably went up a little, throttle response seems better (less lag) and you get more of a whistle. That means you did the job right.

My 2000 never had the whistle the three years I had it from new. Driving the truck right after changing the up-pipes I literally thought there was an ambulance nearby.....sounds just like a siren.
Checked my intake hose last night. Mine does have some cracks in it right where the clamp goes on, but I don't think they are all the way through yet. Might be some that I didn't see.......I'll probably order one up anyway. Thanks again for the tip.

I didn't have any extra whistle. I changed my 6 hoses because of oil bleeding through. I don't think I had a leak YET just wanted to prevent a blown hose on a road trip It looks like the gap In the inlet hose was about 1/8" wide, if it was tighter it would problably would have whistled like a vaccuum leak under boost or maybe not. Have You changed the 6 intake/intercooler hoses ? you might have a little hole in one.

I got the six boots from the dieselsite.com. Did you run into anything that I sure be aware of?
The two intercooler boots and the two upper boots are about 1in. longer then stock. The two at bottom of intake are stock size. These are the same I bought. The four longer hoses will slide over the two pipes that connect the intake manifold to intercooler on both ends an extra inch so you can now put hose clamp on the inside of the external flare in the pipe for better retension of pipe under HIGH boost. It was a bear to get hose clamps in place over the flare in the pipes though. The flare I'm talking about is where the stock hoses stop at on the connecter pipes at both ends. Also remove your air filter box to gain room to work, three bolts two into fender and one straight down at engine side corner of battery and a wire on firewall side of box. Also you must unclamp intake from turbo to replace two lower hoses on intake.

If I had to do it again I would just cut the four long hoses to stock length and put hose clamps in stock location. Thanks for the information....I appreciate it.

Yep, used the Dieselsite ones as well. Had to trim a little bit of the insulation on the driver's side pipe to get them to fit right. I didn't have to remove the air filter box, had plenty of room there. If the boots had all been stock size, this job would have been done in 45 minutes to an hour.

I'm wasn't sure how long it took because I did the HPO X tube thing and mounted & plumbed my homemade CCV remote canister to keep that extra oil out of intake but still having it hooked up so it worked all the same afternoon.

I was an idiot. Before I even noticed the difference in length I put the hoses on the driver's side pipe and tightened them down first, and THEN tried to get it all to fit back on the intercooler and y-pipe. I probably fought with it for an hour (I'm stubborn), and then got the intercooler hose stuck too far on the intercooler connection side, so that was a real bear to get off.
Then I noticed the length difference, trimmed off the insulation to fit right, and it went on easily.
Just couldn't figure out why they went back on so easily after my up-pipe replacement, but not with the replacements. Duh. Definitely measure the difference in extra length over the stock ones, and trim that amount of insulation on each side FIRST. Since the passenger side doesn't have insulation, it goes on in about 2 minutes.
