turbo pedestal oil leak again.

Well, was changing the oil today when I noticed a ton of oil in the valley. Looks like the pedestal again. Last time it was fixed was at 36k and I didn't pay attention to what was done. I talked to the dealer, they claim $500, a local place says it could be the pedestal itself cracked instead of just needing o-rings, that could be a grand altogether. I'm going to let Ford do it. I don't mind paying to fix stuff, I just hate seeing the same things need it twice with only 105,000 on the vehicle.

At least tthe antifreeze is staying put, I guess the coolant filter is protecting water pump #3 from catastrophe.

I thought a diesel would save me money...

Re: turbo pedestal oil leak again.

I lost my pedestal at 6ok,slow leak for 2 weeks and on the way to the dealer was dumpping qt's of oil into the eng (at 65k my exhaust pipe is sill oilly) Total replacement was $695 - $595 = $100 to me under the 100k. I had not seen much on the forum about this & just thought it was a freak event How many others are going South?? Re: turbo pedestal oil leak again.

Mine went at 100k and I had a rebuilt one installed for about 1/2 the price of a new one. At the same time I put in new up pipes and gaskets since most of the labor was already done. No problems since. Now have 124k.

Mine was just done last week under warranty. I have 62K on my truck. That is 100,000km up here north of the 49th.

Re: turbo pedestal oil leak again.

Mine started leaking at 101,000. I bought the o-rings and did it myself. Not a complicated job but it does take up half of a Saturday to do it. The hard part is just getting the 30 pound turbo out of the truck. Cost about $10 for the parts. While there I installed the Monster Exhaust from Banks with the 4" Down Pipe. Good Luck!

Re: turbo pedestal oil leak again.

Never heard of a cracked pedestal.
Pedestal upper and lower "O" ring failure is common and a fairly easy fix.
The EBPV actuator arm/plunger "O" ring can also be a source of leaking from the pedestal.

Re: turbo pedestal oil leak again.

My EBPV plunger O ring was history along with the up/low O rings and that's why I went to a rebuilt pedestal. It was leaking all over the place. Again, while you have the pedestal off, that's the time to change out the up pipes and gaskets. Generally all get bad and leak. I gained 3 lbs of boost after changing them out.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the consensus may be that o-rings are in my future. Considering how hard the unit is to get to and that I'm not a mechanical genius and I live in the country with only one vehicle, I'm going to let the dealer have the pleasure. I'll print out the info and give it to them.

Re: turbo pedestal oil leak again.

Don't know what happened to mine but at the stop light I was quite embarrassed on the way to the dealer!! I wouldn't think Ford would buy me a new pedestal for $10 worth of o-rings? While they were there I couldn't even get them to spring a NEW TURBO Well it was worth a try
