Turbo Surge or stuttering

2000 F250 with 4in turbo back kit, aftermarket intake, programmer, Diesel site boost fooler, fuel cross over, and oil cross over.

While towing a load up hill under low rpms my turbo starts to hiss and surge. This problem only happens while my aftermarket intake is installed and while I am at a low RPM gear.

Anyone else have this issue before? I thought I was over boosting and installed a boost fooler. However, it did not help at all... Any thoughts?

It happens with the stock box too, you just can't hear it I bet. The chip, and the "Map" The turbo is working in during that rpm, and load is causing it. It will destroy your turbo if you keep letting it. (You can downshift and increase rpm, it should stop, or let off, and get "Below" that map range) Or get the ATS housing, or WW. The ATS will absolutely cure it, the Wicked Wheel does probably 85% of the time.(Not an official percentage, just that it does, MOST of the time) LOL...

By increasing the housing size I can eliminate the surging?

How hard is it to install the new housing?

It is not that it is a larger housing I think, But it's ported. Not difficult really. Many have done it while the turbo is on the truck, Just small bolts,

The one on the right is the ATS, 5 bolts around the edge is all.

THIS is not a good comparison, the one on the left is an EARLY 99, and that ATS is off a 99.5 turbo.

Did mine with the turbo on the truck. Biggest PITA was the actuator rod
connection... That little "E" clip gets away... Get several of them
before you try to re-install. I am a big guy, was a bit tough to get my
arms and hands in there, but really was not a big deal.

ATS housing will really quiet the hissing and eliminate the surge.

Clean all of your boost line boots while you are at it.

Forget WW. Do ATS housing. It IS the cure. Also, FORGET the E clip. Go to NAPA and get their "circular linkage clip" assortment. There are two 1/4" ones in there, and they are so easy to install. NEVER fight that E clip. Pop it off, let it fly where it will, and don't even bother looking for it. Just put on the Circ lnkg clip, and forget it. You will need a 12 pt 5/16 or 8mm (same) to take the cover off. Easy job. Takes about an our or two with no prior knowledge.

I have a similar problem, I experience stall when pulling a load and shift,(6spd) but when pulling a hill the more I get into the throttle at higher rpm 2000-2500 it surges, kinda sounds like a rain bird sprinkler. Would a larger housing help me?
