up pipes

i am in the process of replacing my donuts and in the process found i needed new pipes because they are very worn. I got my new pipes from ford for a grand total of about 80 bucks, but they dont have the nifty lil stainless shielding on them. so the question is, do i need to remove the shielding from the old ones and install on the new ones what are the advantages and disadvantages? and would there be any advantage to say wrap them with header wrap and could this replace the shielding?

thank you,

Kevin

What's shielding? I replaced mine with the IH Bellowed up-pipe kit this summer, and my original ones didn't have anything on them, but they did fall out as soon as I disconnected them from the manifolds.

I would say not worthless, but also not necessary. Isolating as much heat as possible to the exhaust system only is a good thing. My truck also has nothing. I have used the header wrap on my chevelle and found that It works great, but did not last long, it rots away and eventually falls apart.
