Waterpump Replacement Time

I have been smelling a coolant smell for a couple of weeks and now and I thinking it is time for a new waterpump. Should I be leery of buying this Airtex Waterpump ? The price looks good but I don't buy just for the low price. I would like a quality waterpump that will possibly last another 7-10 years or longer.

Any comments on the Airtex brand? Is it a good pump?

I already ordered the 203 thermostat and the billet thermostat housing and the coolant filter assembly from The Dieselsite. And yes a good flush will take place to change the coolant over from green to ELC.

I think I am on the right track. I just need some input on a new waterpump choice.

Re: Waterpump Replacement Time

You are on the right track.7-10 year life expectancy means a Ford waterpump.$250 ouch I know!I get 20% off from friend so it offsets the stealerships prices a little.

Re: Waterpump Replacement Time

Are you saying the Ford will give a 7-10 year warranty with their pump, I don't think so. If I needed a pump it would be the one you are looking at. Airtex has been building auto parts for a long , long time and they make good parts. Just because it came from Ford doesn't mean it is any better quality, most of the parts in the parts dept say Made in Mexico on the box.
It looks like you are doing it right this time, hopefully this will be your last water pump install. I would pick up the fan wrench, it will make getting the fan off a lot easier.

Re: Waterpump Replacement Time

No, I did not imply the Ford pumps give a 7-10 year warranty. Maybe a good 7-10 years of service life.(if luck is on your side)
NC, you were the first to comment on the Airtex and it was a possitive comment at that. Thanks

Re: Waterpump Replacement Time

Someone just posted some info on this subject this past week.

If you go back you'll find the posts. He said he got the wrench at NAPA and the waterpump there too. A new one.

Hashing??? . I'd also spring for the upper rad hose that goes around the belt instead of through it. Since you are already going to do the 203* t-stat.

JMHO.........

Hashing = A Drinking Club With A Running Problem or A Running Club With a Drinking Problem. Hashing or Hash House Harriers, Google it up when you get a chance. Hashing clubs all over the world.

By the way I am doing the around the serpentine belt upper radiater house also.

What's really critical is a way to hold the WP pulley from turning. The fan clutch nut takes a 48mm or 1-7/8" wrench (a universal wrench, AKA big ol' crescent, works OK for the nut).

Pulley holding tool available from NAPA (KD tools #3471)
