What is needed to run 35" tires

Brother in law has a 2000 F250 4x4. He's wanting to run 35" tires, and had his mind set on a 4" lift. However, this month's Off-Road Adventures from 4 Wheel Parts has a profile of a lifted 2000 Ford on 46" tires. In the article, its states that the truck started off with 35" tires and a 2 inch leveling kit. Neither of us thought about a leveling kit as a way to get 35" tires on. All of the sudden the light bulb turned on !!!

Has anyone on these boards used a leveling kit and 35" tires? What is your experiences? What brands did you find to be the best?

Also, what do you guys consider the minimum rim size to get 35" tires on?

Thanks in advance.

Re: What is needed to run 35" tires

I have seen SD's leveled and running 315/75r16's. I run mine on a 4" lift w/ stock rims.

Re: What is needed to run 35" tires

Isn't the stock wheels 7" wide ? I did a quick check on BF Goodrich's web site for the tires listed in your signature, BF Goodrich Mud Terrains, and according to their specs, the minimum wheel width for that tire is 8", a full 1" more than your rim. Isn't this pushing it a bit? Here's the link to the specs

http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/asset...rain_ta_km.pdf

The reason I ask is that I have 315/70/17 BFG AT on my truck and BFGoodrich recommends a 8.5" minimum rim width, and Dodges come with 8" wide wheels stock. I had 1 Discount tire refuse to put the tires on the wheels because they were .5" smaller than the recommended wheel size by BF Goodrich. They (Discount Tire) cited safety reasons, that said the tire would not get a good seal to the inside of the wheel. They also said that the tire would bubble in the middle because the sidewalls would be pulled in more than they were designed for, thereby increasing the wear in the center of the tire.

Re: What is needed to run 35" tires

Were running 35 BFG all terrains with just 450 springs in the front of our 6.0. It rubs a little on the plastic but it's not bad!

Re: What is needed to run 35" tires

I am running 315s with a 3.5" lift. The tires don't rub, but it's close. I think anything under 3" would be cutting it close. I also run 315s on stock rims. Ya they say you're not supposed to, but me and buddy have been doing it for a couple years with no problems. You will get better tire wear and the handling would probably be better with a wider rim. But I can't afford new rims, so I am happy with the stockers

Re: What is needed to run 35" tires

I have 12.5 x 35's on 16.5 rims and my truck only has a leveling kit on it. The last set of BFG's lasted 65K miles and the set that is on my truck has 30K on them and still look good. The major wear that is on them is from my right foot

I had to adjust the fender skirt a little to keep them from rubbing. Took all of 20 min to adjust.

Re: What is needed to run 35" tires

Running my BFG 315's with nothing more than the Pro Comp Leveling kit. I think it looks great! I only get a slight rub on the edges of the Leaf Pack when turning all the way to the stops.

Re: What is needed to run 35" tires

i have 315-75r-16 geolander at's on 16x10's. i have an add-a-leaf (1"-1 1/2") and i had to trim both the bumper trim and plastic fender liner. it doesn't rub, but i am either going to put 4" springs or a shackle relocate because it still has a fairly extreme rake with the airbags in back. i have heard that you can fit 35's on a stock truck, but i wouldn't suggest it.

Re: What is needed to run 35" tires

Edge Mini-Spring pack with V code springs, 315 BFG AT's. Rub a little on plastic (and leaf springs at full lock) but not bad at all. Just heat up the innerwells with a heat gun and push them out a little. I am also running stock rims, don't have the cash for rims right now.
