What oil additives should I run?

Is there any specific additive that is better than the others? Lucas seems to put out a good product. How about Amsoil? I can't find Amsoil at any of the stores around my area though, so I am more apt to run Lucas. Is it worth $30 a gallon for that stuff? I am due an oil change soon and going on a 1500 mile trip to the east coast.

Re: What oil additives should I run?

If you ask me, I think just a plain diesel oil like Rotella 15W-40 is all you will ever need. Change it every 5K and keep on truckin. But it's your money if you want to use to synthetics.

Re: What oil additives should I run?

Most of us don't run anything additives in our oils. The modern dino and synthetic fluids don't require them if changed properly. Now for fuel I use Powerservice on every fill up.

Re: What oil additives should I run?

If your running a good quality diesel motor oil you won't need any additives.

Re: What oil additives should I run?

none would be my answer!!

If you really want to find out how your oil is doing, you should take an oil sample while your changing it and have it tested. Then test again later down the road when you're again changing the oil. This will give you a much better range of how long you can run your oil and how it's holding up.

Re: What oil additives should I run?

NONE would be my answer too. You need to start with a good quality oil and leave it alone. Additive can throw off the oil's natural additive pack and cause it to underperform.

I recommend Rotella T 5-40 Synthetic
Or Shaffer's 9000
AMSOIL 15-40 does well too.

Re: What oil additives should I run?

None. All quality Diesel-rated oils come with an engineered additive package.

None. Use the right oil and you don't need them.

Re: What oil additives should I run?

Wow, I guess it's unanimous. I guess I can save my money for something else. Thanks for all the inputs. I already run Rotella 15-40 and Powerservice fuel additive. I guess I am on the right track. Keep on truckin...

Re: What oil additives should I run?

I run Motorcraft 15w40. That it. Never had a problem with 190k on the clock.

You would notice a difference in smoothness and easier cold starts by switching to Rotelly 5-40 Synthetic, possibly longer change intervals too. That's the only thing I can think of for you to try.
The stuff you're using should hold it together for many many miles to come.
