what should i do with my tranny

Hi all,
I bought my first real truck about 2 months ago and love it. I did a complete lube job on the engine when i first got it because i had know idea when it was done prior. The truck(250 c.c. 7.3 2001)is in real good shape and i think it was taken care of in the past. It has know 5th wheel hitch or goose neck so i don't think it ever pulled a super large load. Im currently trying to get in touch with the owner(at his winter home)to ask about tranny fluid. Now to my question--

Fluid for the tranny is very clean, not dark and dosn't smell burnt.
Do i need to go ahead and replace fluid and filter or should it be allright untill i can find out more history about the truck?
Tranny (4 speed auto) shifts good.

Your help is appricated.

Love my PSD

I would just change it, then you know for sure what you have in there. The process to do it yourself is simple enough.

Re: what should i do with my tranny

I was in the same boat as you when I bought my truck last month. I know the truck was not used to tow at all, and the previous owner said he didn't know when(or if) the tranny fluid was last changed. It was a lease, so he "assumed" they did it when he took it in for normal service. I'm waiting on a valve to arrive tomorrow, then I'm doing the flush/changeover to synthetic tomorrow or Wed.

Just change it and be over it.
