For the many of you who had your alternators replaced, did you have two alternators or just one? If you had two alternators, did you replace both at the same time? One at a time? If you replaced the alternator 3 times, was it the same alternator, or did you alternate between alternator changes?
I just turned 78K. I have replaced: the CPS (at 6500 miles, did not fail but "threw a code") fuel filter a few times oil filter a few times 1 tail light bulb getting ready to do hoses, belt, and brakes. I love my truck!

Hubs at 128k, and now again at 280k (I do a fair amount of offroading)
Front axle bearings at 280k (the axles were loose as all heck-I guess that contributed to the hubs)
rotors at 90k
Power steering box at 183k
Carrier bearing at 212k
Injectors, ICP and cam sensor 143k
Differentials (they werent bad, but the LSD wasnt working, so I changed both to 2004 diffs with 410s) at 125k
2 fuel pumps (didn't record when, but I ran it out of fuel to cause this)
coast clutches are now bad in the trans (started showing at 250k)
Balljoints like clockwork every 100k Batteries every 2 years
Water pump at 150ishk
belt tensioner/belt/hoses at 187k
other than that, this trucks been lucky. No motor/trans issues (my other one is a different story)
Holy cow on the batteries. Any idea why your truck eats them? A lot of people get 5+ years out of them.
175,000 and other than normal maintaince stuff like oil, filters, batteries, brakes, belts, hoses, it's been to the shop for a cps (under the 100k warranty), thats it. I had the cps replaced again with the recall and since the price was lowered on it I bought one for the glove box.
But now I think the turbo is acting up somehow. But I can't complain, I love this frign truck.

I've had my truck since new, special order, I've replaced one cps, door latch dome switch, rear ujoint, cps from recall, two batteries, two headlight bulbs, one slave cyl, one waterpump, one fuel injector, clutch pedal pin that connects to slave rod, made own instead of new pedal or weld repair, thats it other than regular maintenence stuff, filters and have 98k mi.

I have a 1994 idi turbo diesel-factory turbo- with 153,xxx on it and, oh my, lets see here.
All new injectors and injector pump at 150,500
Fuel line from injector pump to an injector 150,600
Alternator at 150,100
Brand new starter at 153,000
New battery cables same time as starter, the truck starts so fast now, the engine is running before starter is done winding down, turns the engine over faster than I've ever heard a diesel turn over
2 new batteries same time as starter/cables
Unfortunately, i need to rebuild the tranny, ran it out of oil driving down road, cooked the clutches, but it still drives tho, so will wait till next spring to do it, and i need to replace the brackets at rear of truck the springs are attached to, as they are torn, not rusting away. A school was the previous owner, and the only thing I can figure out is they must have overloaded the truck heavily every time, but knew the truck would pull. They also replaced the water pump and put in a new radiator.
I also have a 1990 F-Super duty with 160,xxx on truck, 60,xxx on engine rebuild. I bought with bad head gasket and had it rebuilt, along with new clutch and flywheel, injector pump as well. Dont drive it tho, its for sale. True dual exhaust, made into straight pipe stacks that go straight up behind cab(stainless steel), very loud and smokes like no tomorrow when under a load, has a big truck fifth wheel, mounted straight to frame, and has a big truck toter hitch on rear. I used to pull a 48' flat bed with it quite frequently, pulling boats. Also oversize office trailers. Only thing it really, really needs is a turbo, as it never had one.
At point do we do an overhaul? I plan on keeping the truck as long as possible.
I believe the time to overhaul is when your going thru a gallon of oil a day, with a lot of bad blow-by. At least it would be for me. The engine would run ok, but it would be easy to tell its lost power and fuel economy, so just keep up maintenance and the 7.3 should last 500,000 and up before really worrying about an overhaul.
