Where do you buy your turbo?

My turbo is shot. I bought a kit to rebuild it, but the compressor wheel AND the drive wheel are destroyed. Also, for the first few miles (7 or so) I can hear it dragging, even if the block heater was plugged in overnight.

So where did you buy yours? How much was it?

You can buy a factory balanced center cartridge from RiffRaff for 5-600. Or if are boosting over 25psi, you need to upgrade to something that can handel the higher stress level such as the 38R, H2E,.....

I did order that balanced center cartridge from riffraff yesterday, now I need to figure out how to fix the pipes leading to the turbo from the exhaust manifold.... They are leaking exhaust heavily at the top, and I can wiggle the Y-flange all over the place when the turbo is removed.

I do have new gaskets, but Im worried that it might be destroyed from letting it go so long, also those bolts look like they are going to break if I try to remove them. Maybe they will break free with alittle heat? :/

Take the collector off of the pipes. More than likely, you can remove the bolts on the manifolds and the pipes will slide right out. After that, you can work on the collector on the bench. Soak the bolts with PB Blaster and they should come loose. A little heat may also help free it up.

You can sometimes save the factory set-up using Fel-Pro 8194 exhaust gaskets. You may find yourself redoing this later on, but can make it last for a year or two. The permanent fix is the Bellowed Up Pipes from International. RiffRaff Diesel has the best price usually. They come with all new parts from the manifolds up. It elminates the slip gaskets that fail so often.

Ok. Ill look into that, i already have the gaskets sitting on the shelf at home now, so when i change the turbo, I will use those, and order the better up pipes later.

I lost ANOTHER injector this morning, started knocking loudly.... Parked it immedietly so I dont damage the cylander. **sigh** now I wish I had just spent more money for a better truck when my old one puked out, rather than buying one from a backyard mechanic that uses cheap knock off injectors instead of real Alliant.
