Will it fit?

I am still looking for a replacement engine for my 2001 F350. I have found one out of a 99 vin# 1FDAF57F5XEB01683 When I did a free online search of the vin it came back with this below. Is this the same as my current engine. I really am in need of something fast and am having a hard time finding something that just runs

Thanks for any help

Yes it will fit. You may have to use your turbo pedestal, turbo, and pipes as it may have the smaller tubing of the early 99, but as a long block it will be 100% identical.

Great, Thank you. I would have been using my original turbo as I just had it rebuilt.

Again, Thank you

The cool thing about this swap is the 99 is going to have forged rods for sure whereas your 01 has about a 50% chance of having powdered metal rods. Now you can crank up the power without worrying about snapping a rod.

how did the rebuild go? Did it have the early 99 turbo set up on it?

Finally able to pick it up. Owner stated it only had 200k on it. One inspection I think it had a hard life or has more. Price was dropped and hopefully I have a good rebuild able core. Went out last night and picked up a 2000lb engine stand. Will mount it up this weekend and dive in.

Not looking for a killer drag motor just something a little extra power, any suggestions while I am at it

Would be a good time to freshin' up glow plugs. And if you have the extra cash perhaps upgrade injectors.

Did "new" engine come with a complete top end? (heads, turbo, etc.)

Yes its complete. Talked to machine shop today to get an idea of machine work. Should I look for a full rebuild kit or re-use factory stuff

Even with 200k+ on it, you may still find crosshatch patterns in the cylinders.

Before tearing it down, I'd try and do a compression check. Even if you do wind up rebuilding it, chances are the cylinders may just need re-honing so new rings can seat. Unless they ran extremely hot, the pistons should be OK. Look for cracks in the combustion pocket in the top. They'll usually appear in a radial pattern matching the injector nozzles resulting from the injected fuel flamethrower effect. If there are significant cracks in the piston tops or damage at the ring grooves, the pistons should be replaced, but not before you decide if you're reboring the cylinders (again, likely not needed) so you can get the correct size.
