Upgrades and Aftermarket - 7.3L EngineUpgrading and adding aftermarket equipment to your 1999-Up Super Duty or Excursion with 7.3L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 7.3L Power Stroke engine.
More information needed on vehicle and type of driving> I have also noticed a differance in MPG from state to state because of different additives used in the diesel. So your location might help also.

I have a 03 Ex. That is what we get around town. But we are on the San Francisco, California peninsula. That means a lot of hills. Up and down no matter where we go.
Are there any mods done to it yet? Before a suggestion as to what can be done to improve it a list of what has been done could be helpful. You might want to put a signature together for everyone's review.
See scrumn6guns and my signatures for examples.

I average about 12 as well, I dont know what you have done but obviously my lift and tires dont help, plus I dont drive like an old lady and im guessin you dont either so that uses a lil more fuel but its totally worth beating young guys in a civic if I take long highway trips i can get up to 18 a gallon

Not any freeways on the island so mostly 45mph with some stop signs and hills. Average about 14 mpg with occassional trailer tows in the superduty. Average closer to 18 mpg with the 6.9 but it is a couple thousand pounds lighter.
We get about 12mpg around town - that's flat land at 40-45 mph speed limits with several stop lights and signs. We just got back from a several hundred mile round trip through the desert and mountains and averaged 16.5 mpg.
That's the best I've seen from this Excursion. Was hoping for better when I bought it, but love it none the less!!

I get around 14 city and between 17 -18 on the highway..... Where you are at is important, I don't know for sure (I live in FLA.) but the northern states might be switching over to winter blend fuel, which reduces MPG.

I get 19 overall mixed city and hwy in the winter and 20 MPG mixed city/highway in the summer. That mileage is with a bone stock truck, easy driving style, no lift or oversized tires with the 6 speed manual trans. I believe the auto trucks get slightly less MPG than than a properly driven 6 speed manual. Autos absorb a bit more energy through the trans than a manual.
However, I just installed an Edge Evolution which should boost those MPG numbers conservatively to at least 1 MPG higher given the same style of driving.
