1500 cold cranking amps?

I was looking at CAT batteries, and was wondering if anyone had them on their PSD? I figure if my motor ever let me down, i could drive home on the starter with that many cca's lol. I was also reading that they made batts for frequent starts, and some for ideling all day and some for running accs for longer periods. Which one would be best? http://www.cat.com/cda/components/fu...7&x=7&id=90282
thanks

Re: 1500 cold cranking amps?

The OE batteries for your truck have 750 CCA's each. Some replacements have more. The ones in my truck have 875. You will have to do some hacking to make those group 31's fit too.

I'm not even sure what battery you are talking about. You talking about one of those CAT batteries or a replacement battery that fits? Did you miss the part about the OE batteries having 1500 CCA's?

Re: 1500 cold cranking amps?

I believe he is wanting to put in batteries that have 1500cca apiece. Combined 3000cca. To the original poster, it won't hurt anything that I know of to put the more powerful batteries in. You might want to do some measuring before you buy them. I don't think you have enough room under the hood for them.

Re: 1500 cold cranking amps?

That's what I thought until I looked at his link. He linked group 31's with 710,825,and 1000 CCA's.

thanks </div></div>With Group 31 batteries you will need to pull the existing battery trays, including the OEM snorkel/battery box and custom fab two new trays. Also note that those batteries do not have automotive terminals but studs, so you will need to put new ends on the OEM wires. I put Group 31 Commercial Yellow Top Optima batteries. They were a bit pricey but they have not let me done in two years.

Re: 1500 cold cranking amps?

Putting a very large (heavy) Battery in your truck will be very hard on the body and tent to shake things apart, if you have high demand for running accs for longer periods. with the truck not running, You will want to look into a Deep Cycle battery. If you are running accs large for longer periods with the truck running and running down your battery, You need a larger alternator not battery. and unless you are trying to start a larger displacement engine you really have no need for very high CCA's Spike481

http://www.1st-optima-batteries.com/ </div></div>Read my thread above again. That is what I have. They will not fit in the stock location without replacement of both battery trays even if they are slightly smaller!
