All my parts got here...now for installation

Well, my 4 position chip, triple gauge setup, and 4" exhaust are here. I have to say that Diesel Innovations has been great to do business with! I'm going to instal my gauges and chip today or tomorrow and then do the exhaust this weekend. I'll keep y'all posted on the results.

Re: All my parts got here...now for installation

Actually, the exhaust is prolly the easiest of the bunch.

I'd do the gauges first, drive it a little and get a baseline of what your truck currently runs at, then do the chip, get some more info, and finally install the exhaust. THis way you can see what each change does via the gauges.

Re: All my parts got here...now for installation

That's how I had planned on doing it...but...I decided to put the chip in. I just got back from driving it. All I can say is, "Holy diesel smoke batman!" Even in the 40hp setting it's a completely different truck. The 75 and 110 settings are just plain awesome! I took the chip out once I got back here to my house. I went and bought a sawzall while I was out so that I could do my exhaust either today or tomorrow. Any idea on how long it'll take to do without a lift? Maybe get some ramps to drive up on??? I don't think I have a drill strong enough to get into the manifold and do the pyro probe instal. I'm going home this weekend for Easter, so I will be able to do the gauges then. I just want to get most of it out of the way before I get there (aka I want more time to fish while at home this weekend).

I would not drive without gauges. You can easily get your EGT's high enough to burn your pistons.

You can do the exhaust easily without ramps, especially on a 4X4. It does help to have another set of helping hands to hold certain pcs of pipe while you tighten them down.

I wouldnt drive in the high HP modes without that pyro probe installed. It DOES NOT take a very strong drill, just a sharp bit. the manifold metal is VERY soft. A new bit will cut like butter.

Re: All my parts got here...now for installation

Yeah, I have had a couple of friends do that already. I am going to leave the chip out until I get the gauges in. I just wanted to see what it felt like Hopefully I'll get it all done by Sunday. I guess that I'm gonna go out and get some new bits and a tap for the probe. I can work on getting that done this afternoon or tomorrow.

Re: All my parts got here...now for installation

Exhaust will take you 4 hours if you are alone and taking your time. The sawzall is the right approach for time savings.

Re: All my parts got here...now for installation

It took me about 2 and a half hours to do the exhaust with my seven year old son helping. I used a couple of bungie cords to hold up the down pipe while I hooked it to the turbo, really helped.
