I have severe axle hop under hard acceleration from a dead stop. This is on a 2wd truck. Has anybody clamped the front of the springs with good results? I know caltracs work, but just trying to find any easy alternative.
If they are built properly with the right geometry than they should eliminate any axle wrap. Is it so bad that it is violent. If it is really bad then you might want to consider some add a leafs. My truck goes in to the shop tommorow morning for some new rear springs. I wraped my axle so hard that it broke one of my lift blocks.
It hops pretty bad if the tires start to break loose from a launch. I checked with the sponsers and searched a bit, but I cant find anything for the 2wd trucks. I know I could eventually get some caltracs built, but just wondering if any of the sponsors have ever carried anything that is a direct fit for 2wd applications.
It's simple, I just took two pieces of 1/8 angle iron and cut them a little wider than the leaf, drilled two holes in them on both sides and ran some grade 8 bolts through. Strap them over the leaf pack and tighten them down. I don't have any pics, but you can find some pics on dieselplace.com

Reason for the axle wrap is because the front of the spring pack spreads apart when under a hard load. bolting the spring pack together keeps them together thus not allowing the axle to wrap forward.
It will still wrap with a set of slicks though. The other bad part about them is they DO NOT allow the front of the srings to move thus making a rough ride ecause the back half of the springs are doing all the flexing.
It worked for me fine but I take them off when not anticipating burnouts and I made my own.
