It is nice to know he will stand behind it, 4 years from now, if it needs it, yes. They are mechanical pieces. Can a BTS break, heck yea it can, do they often, no. When they do is it nice to know 4 years later it won't cost you anywhere NEAR the cost of a new rebuild? (Probably only 4-500. on the outside,) For fluids and a bit of labor or shipping) if not totally free.
IMO, Brian is confident of his work to the extent that he knows that not that many people will need a rebuild that it will break him financially. Given time, any trans will break. He knows he builds it for a hot rod group and not Granpa or Grandma Smith that takes it out once a week to go to church and the grocery store. In spite of that, he is willing to pay for the repairs out of his own pocket because he knows he will make enough to cover the few that come back.
Now, lets look at his pricing vs JW. JW's pricing is equal to BTS only up to the 350HP level. After that, things are vastly different. With BTS, I can run any engine I want for any purpose. Sled pulling, snow plowing, racing, etc, etc. Once you go past 350HP, BTS pricing beats JW. I can run a 700HP truck with a $4100 BTS trans or pay JW more. Also, JW only will stand behind it for 50K or 3 yrs. That means he thinks that is all it will last.

You bubbas are beating a dead horse. BTS doesn't advertise except by word of mouth and via testimonials from bubbas. He doesn't have to. John Wood trannies are also highly regarded. BTS and JW have different business models. BFD. If I lived in California I would consider a John Wood tranny. The opportunity to be educated while the tranny is rebuilt by either Brian or John is not to be dismissed.

Yes they do. I just happen to like the BTS one better.
Yes, you are right about that. IMO, if all things were equal, I'd go for the education. OTOH, the education, to me at least, is not the make or break.

aklim, have you ever call jw and talked to him? you should take time and just call him and ask him the questions. as far as the warranty thing goes if you break a tranny after all that wear and tear of 3yrs or 50k then i guess paying for it shouldnt be a problem. i doubt that it will break by then. like i said call jw tomorrow and he will talk your ear off even though he is busy and then post what you think.

Oh, I would expect the trans to break after 3 yrs. Anything else is borrowed time as far as I am concerned. I am rough on my toys and I know it. Yes,, at that time, paying for it shouldn't be a problem. OTOH, if I don't have to pay for it, it will be a bonus. Also, the price was better. If I were to buy one now, it would be a push for the 350HP unit but I would go one level up if I went with JW since I would at some point, hit the 400HP and maybe a bit more point.
I'll give him a shout and see where it goes. Dad will need a trans at some point. For him, it would be a push since he doesn't mod his truck and will not need to go past the 350HP level

So your saying getting 50k miles out of a "BUILT" Transmission would be acceptable to you? Well, you must have money to burn!
Don't get me wrong, I am not DISSING JW, if I lived out west, instead of here near the 'Ole Miss, I would have possibly went with him.
But if I did, and it failed after 4 yrs, and say 60k miles, I would be upset to say the least.

Depends on what you are doing. Top Fuel Dragsters get barely 10 miles out of the engine. People in the MB world are able to apply for high mileage badges at 250K. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering used to give 2 YR 24K warranties with their engines which was pretty respectable. Reason is that when you buy such an engine, they expect you to beat on it. JW and BTS do serve such a clientele. Their people buy such a trans and expect to be beating on it. As such, mileage and time will go down from if you granny it.
That said, at this time, this is the message I am getting:
BTS: My trans will do what you need to for as long as you own it
JW: My trans will do what you need it for at least 50K or 3 yrs

I would be pissed if a built transmission went out on me especially since i have 127,000 on my stocker!!!! a 50,000 mile warranty really isnt much of one. Im not dissing John Wood at all, i have heard many folks who are happy with his product. i dont think u can go wrong with either transmission.

heres a good ? for you guys. what is an acceptable warranty? for a 50k f350 the basic should be way more than what they cover. unacceptable right? you buy a 1500-2000 computer and only get a 1 year warranty, acceptable ya right! so because one gives you a 3yr 50k warranty that is unacceptable? come on look at the picture here. you are acting as if jw puts a stinkin time bomb in your built tranny for the 3yr 50k. the tranny will take you way past that. so a 3yr 50k is fine. its not like i am wasting money, and i dont have money, i dont expect jw to warranty it forever. who knows what he would do at the time of a tranny breaking down 3 1/2 yrs or 4 yrs down the road. oh ya i forgot a rebuilt or reman 7.3 will only give you a 12k 1yr warranty acceptable?

I have to get another BTS , the first one worked so great in the wife's truck .that after I burned my stocker up I took it down there , still there while I am out of town, hopefully be done in a week or two. About selling that one to the wife , well, it was a hard sell for my truck ,but of course I threw the ace out an said That since I was taking care of her truck so she would not have problem hauling the horses while trail riding ,she knew I should have one for myself, I LOVE MY WIFE. I'M getting a BTS also, Yahoo
the tranny will take you way past that. so a 3yr 50k is fine.
i dont expect jw to warranty it forever.
who knows what he would do at the time of a tranny breaking down 3 1/2 yrs or 4 yrs down the road.
If he is as confident, why does he limit it at 3 yr 50K? Maybe YOU are more confident than he is of his product.
Neither do I. However, BTS is willing to warranty it for as long as you own it. Also he doesn't have the different levels that you have to buy into. I can buy the $4100 unit for my stock truck, mod it to 400HP and more. I don't have to pay more for higher HP trucks.
BTS warranty of 2 yrs unlimited miles is for the shipping only. Other than that, he is taking care of it whether it breaks in 2 yrs, 3, 4, 5, etc, etc. There are cases of him doing just that. How many cases of JW doing that do you know of?

OK, now please understand, NO ONE is dissing JW, I am quite sure, no matter what his warranty is, the trans will out last it in most every occasion....
This is getting out of hand, cause the JW "Bubbas" think the "BTS Bubbas" are dissing him.... we aren't. We love our BTS' and you all love your JW transmissions..... good enough.
