If you aren't running a hot tune and pulling a trailer then you will not get any benifit from changing anything but a complete replacement.
What you are looking for is the ATS Ported Compressor Housing. Right now I think they are a bit tricky to get ahold of. Keep looking.
What the Banks Wheel is, is nothing more than the stock pre-00 (I think??) compressor wheel that has a staggered fin design. More commonly known as the Wicked Wheel.(WW) Some, I included, have reported a loss of performance when using the WW and stock housing. I pulled my WW and bought the ATS housing.
Do us a favor, fill in your signature so we know what your truck has so we can better address your questions.

I've been hearing about the ATS housing, can you tell me whats involved in replacing it, are all parts included, and how much is it? I've had my turbo out before so I'm familier with that part of it. Does it come with a new wheel? My original is shot. What benifits does it give? More boost, or just control surge? Thanks!

Ron's turbo shop, he sells on e-bay, housing, wheel, complete turbos...
nice customer service and prices are not bad, you don't have to wait months for a ATS ported housing, he usually has it in stock and it comes with a new wastegate as well.

is it just the price that makes the wicked wheel the one of choice, are the fins at a better pitch, is there more fins than the banks or less than stock?
the reason i ask is im looking into doing the wheel & big head & i like read about something before i buy it...good or bad..
like i said you input is valued

From what I've been told, and researched, the W.W. and the Banks are the same compressor wheel. Banks just charges more for it. I bought mine for about $75.00, but can't remember from where right now. Hope that helps.

yea like everything that banks does they charge twice as much for little or no results. but you do get a bunch of stickers and everything is painted a pretty red!!!!
you can get the ww from almost anywhere and they are usually about $75-100 range.
as for the use of the wheel its going to stop your surge if you keep your truck fairly stock and you might pick up a little quicker spool good bang for your buck. the ats housing is ultimately a better upgrade but at a higher cost. and a aftermarket turbo again would top that

The WW and the Banks for that matter is just a wheel from a 99. I see no differance but more whistle from turbo, I think the ATS housing is the way to go.

Actually a WW is a stock '95-early 99 wheel. Good mod is a 1.0 A/R NON wastegated Turbo Housing with adapter cheaper than the ATS and works great for stock or stage 1 Inj.s Use a WW with it.

Everyone has different opinions, but as for me. I suggest intake & exhaust, then gauges.
After that, IF you're going to chip it and/or pulling alot of weight, start messing w/ turbo....otherwise leave well enough alone. I've got the Wicked wheel (old style, banks, performance or whatever ya wanna call it) & turbomaster wastegate controller and it ONLY has improved my situation because of my chip (more fuel). If I turn my chip to stock mode,........LOL, my truck is a complete DOG! On the other hand, toss some extra fuel (chip) at it, and she'll pull hard all day!
IMHO if you're not running a chip, stick w/ stock wheel.
