Couple of DP tuner questions

Ok the DP tuner chip is in and working...the change in my truck is incredible!!. I do have a couple of questions. in 80 Econo I have notice that the tranny is shifting way different as a matter of fact it seems like it now has a 5 speed rather than the 4 that I know it is. What is it doing and is it normal?
secondly, I have noticed the truck shifting down alot. Is this something that normally is there and is just more noticible with the 80 econo tune than the others?
and finally it is cold here and I have been starting the truck in the stock setting. I have been waiting for the engine temp gauge to hit the lower mark on the gauge before going to a dp tune is that good enough? I dont want to blow up anything.

Other than these questions I am really happy with the DP chip so far, should make the 5th wheel pull much easier.

Normal.

You're probably feeling the torque converer lock up. Engine RPM will fall about 200 RPM when the torque converter locks up at around 37 MPH (unless Jody changed the speed at which the torque converter locks up). Plus it will shift into overdrive, before or after the torque converter locks up, depending on your right foot.

80-E is not meant for towing. If you tow more than a rowboat, then switch to a towing tune, which will downshift much less frequently. In fact, with the 40-tow program, mine won't downshift except for really major grades. But with 80-E it will downshift for smaller grades.

Much ado about nothing. Whether 80-E, 80-T, 60-T or 40-T, you can crank the engine and warm up the truck while driving with one of the milder tunes - less than 100 HP. Just baby it until the coolant temp gets up to normal, regardless of tune installed. Mine is almost always in 60-T, even for unloaded cruising. I never change tunes just because of cold weather.

But then I never use 100 or more performance tunes, either.

Yes everyting smokey wren said HAHAH. Gotta love that TC lockup feeling..especially when you're hooked to a very heavy trailer. My old lady was sleepin i n the fifth wheel and when it downshifted she called me on the celly...saying....*what did you just hit? *

Ok but I have not towed anything yet. The down shifting accures as I am slowing for a traffic light, stop sign, traffic, etc.

and I tried out the 120 race tune after I installed the chip....it scared me a bit, it is diffentantly more tune than I want/need, wont be using it again any time soon.

I run mine in 120R setting almost 100% of the time. No problems...

Just make sure your engine is FULLY warm before hankering down on the pull-me-over pedal.

I'm curious about the downshifting when slowing as well.

Mine downshifts when slowing in every program I have, 40 tow, 80 econo, and 120 race.

It's a little irritating when in traffic around 43 mph, and the truck keeps downshifting.

I wouldn't tow with the 80E. The shifts are quicker and NOT as friendly towards whatever you are towing. In my case, WGAS? The trans is covered. Problem is that whatever is inside my Toy Hauler might not like a flight from the shelves to the floor.

Does the DP tuner make quite a bit of smoke on the 120 race level? I have always wanted to be able to blow a little black smoke here and there.

My 140 was bought specifically as a smoke tune. It will dump ungodly amounts of smoke. Perfect for giving somebody the finger without giving them the finger.

The 120R makes some smoke, but get the 140X setting.

It is great for rollin the coal on the foreign car behind ya.

I have a 2001 F250 with a SCT Tuner with 40/80/120 tunes. Mine does the same thing on the 120 tune. Right at 43 it will upshift if slight acceleration, and when coasting, it will downshift at 43-42 as soon as I just touch the go-pedal.

My 80 tune is pretty good but seems to upshift too early. I have heard that is necessary for the econo - getting into a higher gear earlier, but it is a bother at times.

I havent used the 40 enough to remember but will do some driving with it too.
