Get yourself a 6637 NAPA filter, 5 inches of 4" diameter exhaust pipe (from any exhaust shop or parts house, straight for late models and 45 degree for early models) and a couple of clamps and your done. Stay with the steel. Plastic is thicker and restricts the flow of air more than steel. Also do Guzzle's mod if you want the filter minder on it. Welcome to guzzle's 6637 Filter Restriction Sensor Web Page
usually a 45 but some get away with a traight as the oem has some flex.
.. imagine a big coffee can on the end of your stock pipe that might help line it up.

first let me say ..are my the filters a cheap pile o junk ,
that i am not sure yet, they look good to me ,
and the pipe stays clean, so for now they are good.
but they are new and I never really heard of the brand .
my filter parts from the turbo map sensor out are"
heavy duty dual 4" rubber hose clamp from Lowe's. 5$ ( one with the smooth metal plate in between not the corrugated one)
I cut my original rubber pipe in half..slightly more actually, I stuck it on the oem spot a good 2" and clamped down tight
fitting is a delta 4" dust collector y pipe 6.00
pep boys specter filters $30~40 something like 36 i believe
each w/10 year 100k warranty washable then oil etc...
they come with their own clamps .
..I tossed the inside reducers out presumably they are for imports with 3" pipes fitting wise they are tight
now there is less then a 1/2" of space by the IC pipe, battery etc..
I cut my stock battery box down a little, but my early 99 has a fender sleeve so I left it there to help w airflow.
so total cost prob $80 ish, originally it was $45, see below.......
Here is the deal on why i did them
...my check engine light came on and went out
nothing on the codes my stock filter was a lil dirty so I cleaned it off..
POS tabs broke so I needed anew filter asap...so i went to napa and they quoted me 60 bucks for the reg tymar..with my apparently worthless AAA discount . I thought for a filter that gets dirty and thrown out...ha
I laughed at the guy and left.
So on the way home I stopped by boys and bought their filter.
and a 3" pvc 45' elbow from lowes total cost about $45 . I thought that was it , until I installed my air-minder in the elbow.
..at wide open throttle it would suck the yellow all the way down
...so I bought another filter , and stole the pipe off my dust collector in my shop cause nothing else fit easily
...filter minder doesn't budge now. I have two serviceable -filters that look way better to me ,
then that shop vac lookn, canaster napa jobbie .

It difinately looks alot better than the big Napa filter. I like the idea. Do you notice any performance difference. I might try to do this mod instead of the big whit napa job.
that was the easy part...early 99's did not have the wrap
performance wise it seems to flow better at high end..
well so far the big woosh sound you get when you let off really quick is much louder...
you can hear the wicked wheel some what slightly better,
though light cruising sounds more like a quiet high pitched radio buzz.
i don't have any real gauges yet to say any other diffs, yeah yeah lame I know ..
I keep changing my plans....that and lack of funds.
one part i didn't mention is the filter minder is almost imposible to get out of the oem housing ,
i should have cracked the housing to get it out since it was broken anyhow.

Also how did you get your'e IC pipe so clean I took the aluminum wrap off the other day and can't get all the insulation off it.
Go to a reputable automotive paint supply store and buy a can of 3M Adhesive Remover. It is sometimes sold as Automotive Wood Trim Adhesive remover, Take your IC pipe off and use the adhesive remover and elbow grease. Mine came off completely and it left a uniform aluminum finish. If you want it shinier use Flitz or NevrDull.
With all the negative feedback on the K&N Clean and Oil elements, make sure that those filters on that dual tymar--ish system perform as required.

the delta dust collector is abs, plastic i actually used black abs,( looks like pvc) the first time...
even the great afe2 and the ais ...are plastic.
I agree with you though, the intake I used used to like looks wise was the AEM chrome pipe.
hard to find and expensive for the 7.3. Itp sells an expensive but nice custom pipe for an afe2 to h2e turbo.

i can get the napa filters for about 48$ but i order them from a different parts store. i have gotten 50k miles out of one filter before with out a decrease in performance and not a spec of dirt in the intake pipe.

well that's with towing a 10k trailer to and from MA to CONN/NY line 12 or so times a year and hauling landscaping equipment 1 or 2 times a week. also i travel to NH about 5 or 6 times a year 2 of them being in the winter when there is lots of sand/salt around. i put around 25-28k miles a year on the truck. funny part about hauling for people is i move a lot of trucks for people at least 1 or 2 a month and 90% of them are Chevy's go figure

I get about the same out of mine (50K). You could stretch it a bit more with a dry wrap. here is mine.
