DP tuner ???

OK, I picked up a 5th wheel, stick and tin as the fiberglass guys say. Its 28.5 ft long. I noticed that I have a hard time getting the tranny to shift up all the way when I pull out on to the hy-way. I was looking at getting gauges, the three on the pillar, maybe even a diff temp gauge. Then I was thinking about a chip and then I have been checking out the DP tuner. I am under the impression that no gauges are needed if you have the DP tuner, does it monitor the engine boost, EGT's and tranny temp?
I have the muffler delete and new gaskets on the up pipes. my turbo was just replaced with a rebuilt unit. I sings a high note but I have no way of knowing how much boost I am getting.
My air cleaner appears to be the original one with the intake still in the fender, it looks to be missing the inner fender piece.
I plan on putting a better air filter very soon, just can't decide on which one.
I am looking to improve the towing and fuel mileage. I wouldn't mind a faster truck without having to stomp on it. Is this something a DP tuner will handle?
My mpg's look to be around 12.5 around town, mostly city driving. My towing checked to be 11.3 hy-way. Oh,and its gutless with the 5th wheel attached. Nothing like my "96" 7.3, it pulled a friends 33' camper like it wasn't there.

You should install gauges even if you are towing with stock programming! The OEM idiot gauges are worthless.

The DP-Tuner does not have any guage feature; you have to add those separately.

It should give you the power you are looking for, presuming your engine is in good shape in the first place.

The DP Tunes are the best on the market. I just set my brothers truck up for towing and I installed an AIS Intake, EGT/Boost/Trans Temp Gauges, 4 inch exhaust and DP chip with 40 tow and 80 econo tunes. His truck went from pulling the hills in AZ at 40 MPH to holding 65 MPH with his 18K fifth wheel no problem with cooler EGT's in the 40 tow setting then stock.

DP is the way to go. There are so many guages you can choose out there to make your truck like you want.
On a side note I suggest the Tymar intake. Have fun

Talking

Another vote 4 Dp Tuner , gauges, Tymar intake / Baldwn filter & BTM flow- thru type muffler. I pulled a 30' Artic Fox 5ver, appx. 18K CGVW. Found more power, better programming, w/o codes and better info to operator. EGT is paramount, momentary 1250 pre-turbo EGT is allowable, don't dwell there. Tranny temps can spike when torque converter is not fully engaged in hard slow stuff, like steep grades or stuck in traffic, or prolonged reverse. I'd also install a coolant filter, & replace coolant upper hose, it enables v-belt change w/o disconnecting coolant hose. Fluids & filters are cheap compared to engines & drive train gear!

You can run a 7.3 at 1250 all day long. My dad has several 7.3's in his business and one of them is used for over the road moves and see's 1250 to 1300 all day long. This truck now has over 600K on it and is still going strong.

I found that when I was trying to keep the rpm's below 2K for better mileage, the truck was gutless towing the 5th wheel on the hi-way. When I take it up to 70-75 mph, it runs over the 2K rpms, like 2200 or 2300 then the truck acts like the 5th wheel is not there. I guess I was lugging the motor trying to keep it at 1800. I also see the fuel level drop fast over 2K.
I'm just not used to pulling the 5th wheel that fast.

DP Tuner all the way. Call Jody T. He'll set you up! My truck went from a slug to a charging bull even with my 5er all loaded up.
