DP-Tuner tunes flashed into the "old" Edge Evolution tuner/programmer

Jody says on his website that he'll sell you a new ExCal II tuner/programmer with your choice of DP-Tuner tunes flashed into it. And recently he let it be known that if you buy one of the new geewhiz Edge Evolution tuner/programmers, he can flash that one with his tunes too.

But I have an "old" style Evo, and I can't afford a new tuner just to get Jody's tunes. So I contacted Jody and asked if he could flash my "old" Evo. He said probably. So I sent it to him and he gotter done. I asked for 80-E and 60-T and didn't care what the third one was. It came back with 4 DP-Tuner tunes:
80-economy
40-Tow
60-Tow
120-Performance

He charged me $75 for the flash, plus $45 for each of three tunes, and threw in the fourth tune free. So $210 out the door.

And he emphasized mine is a beta test. He's not ready to announce that this service is available for the general public yet, but Diane said that if a few more folks from TheDieselStop want their old Evo flashed with DP-Tuner tunes he'll treat you as a beta tester too. You still have to pay the $210, but you'll understand that this service is not quite ready for full production yet. And he'll be expecting feedback on how you like the DP-Tuner tunes compared to the stock Edge tunes.

How do I like mine? Great so far. I've only tried 80-E, and only unloaded, but it "feels" much better than the tow setting on the stock Edge Evo. But I haven't even burned one tank of fuel yet, so it's too early to tell how much I'll like it after some serious towing or unloaded highway trips.

Re: DP-Tuner tunes flashed into the "old" Edge Evolution tuner/programmer

Glad to see you finally got some real tunes Smokey lol!!!
You will love Jody's tunes he really has them perfected. Wait til you you tow with the 60 tow program, where my truck use to down shift towing my TT it simply hammers the boost and off we go right up the mountain and the best part is I have never had to back out of the throttle due to high EGT's, not in the 60 tow. Last trip I accidently started home in the 80 econo and realized it sure was tearing up the hills but the EGt's got quite a bit higher as well. Just to be comfortable the next rest stop I swapped it back to the 60 tow.
Take Care

Is the 30 tow a new program? I thought he only had the 40-60-80 as standard tow programs. The 60 tow works great, but throws the p1211 code all the time with my 12k trailer. It tows great, don't get me wrong and EGT's rarely get above 1100*. This weekend, I'm going to try the 40T to see if the 1211 is subdued. If not, maybe this 30T. Too much fuel, not enough oil (or money).

You're right - it's 40-tow instead of 30-tow. Old men and their memory don't always function up to par.

I'm eager for the EGT data on that 400 tow tune. That must be the edited version of the 30 tow.

My old EVO had tow, performance, and race. But Jody's magic turned it into 4 choices - plus the stock tune that's saved when you choose another tune.

400 tow? Yep, someday I'll learn to type without errors. Notice I edited that post again.

Smokey,
Does the EVO still read the codes as it did before DP flash?

Yes. The menu choices under "Diagnostics" still includes "Display DTCs" and "Clear DTCs"

(DTC = diagnostic trouble code)

Fall of '04.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I have the Edge Evo but it was purchased about 3 yrs ago so not sure if it is old or ? How do you tell? </div></div>

Edge now has two different Evolutions for 7.3L PSDs. The first generation is the one we have. The new one has only been available for a few months, and is completely different. They should have called it the Evo II or some such to avoid this confusion. The first generation plugs in, changes the PCM, then gets unplugged and stored behind the back seat. The new one is installed permanently and includes several functions we don't have. You can see both at Click here.

Right after the new Evo came out, Jody announced that he could flash them with DP-Tuner tunes to replace the Edge tunes. Great! But no such announcement yet about the first generation Evo - until this thread looking for beta testers.

I don't know if it's the model number, but the sticker on the module says:

EEF1000
Ver. E1 30 15
11/12/04

and the owner's manual is for:

1994-2003
Ford Powerstroke 7.3 liter
