Drone from 4" exhaust straight piped?

Hey guys-

Just put on my 4" exhaust (see sig) but it's not quite as loud as I thought it would be. I've listened to a few youtube clips, and the straight pipe sounds much better and louder.

What I'm wondering is if you guys get much drone without the muffler? I know the 5" systems are notorious for drone w/o muffler...but not sure about 4". I wouldn't mind having the exhaust louder, but not if it drones badly.

Opinions appreciated!

Yea, I was a bit surprised about mine too. After a lot of research, I found that most said best exhausts were MBRP and Maganaflow, and that the MBRP was the more "mild" sounding and lower volumed of the two.

I went with the MF for a little louder and aggressive sound. It defintely sounds better than the stock system : more like a big block rumble. Also, the turbo whistles much more out of the MF than stock. But, it just doesn't seem to be that loud, even under WOT with my tunes. So, that's why I'm thinking of deleting the muffler. I could prolly sell the muffler here for the same or more than the stainless delete pipe anyway.

I just don't want annoying exhaust drone at speed. Especially because I tow my camper quite a bit 1/2 the year, and I don't want that thing droning for 30 hour trips. My Dad has an 03 Ram w Cummins, and he replaced JUST the muffler, and his already drones like crazy at highway speed. I don't want that or worse on mine.

The system does sound out a little when lugged down or pulling a hill.

With no programmer I notice the drone at about 71-74mph. With the programmer it's at 65-68mph.

I had a drone but only at certain rpm's. As stated, sometimes when pulling a load.

I don't notice a drone at all on mine. I remember when I first put my straight pipe on it had a little bit of one, but after a week or so I stopped noticing it.

First straight through muffler I had sounded nice on the outside but the drone drove me nutts inside the cab. 36" Magnaflow has got all the advantages of a 4" straight through, which it is, and zero drone. Almost as quiet as the stock muffler.
