Upgrades and Aftermarket - 7.3L EngineUpgrading and adding aftermarket equipment to your 1999-Up Super Duty or Excursion with 7.3L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 7.3L Power Stroke engine.
I'm really not looking for that much of a power boost and was considering a tuner, but I really don't think that's the kind of power I'm looking for. I'm going more for some sound and making the engine more efficient. I'm think that the MRBP(?) 4" Duals 304 Stainless, 4" 409(will this cause rusting of the 304 because of mixed metal?) and 30" muffler delete pipe. With the Ford Severe Duty AIS. What are your thoughts?

I would definitely do the intake and exhaust before a programmer or chip and make sure to get a set of gauges to monitor what is going on. I would do the turbo back exhaust, single 4 inch should be fine. As for the intake go with the tymar or S&B IMO.

I dont believe you will ever regret a DP tuner. I know you said you wanted efficency. When I pull with DP the EGTs are cooler. The truck pulls easier. That has to be efficency at work. So as a suggestion look into a tuner. The 80 econo is a great setting for when cruising down the highway. I personaly choose 60 Tow for stop go in the city. Along with your intake and exhaust of choice they will make the truck more efficient. Last thought, if you get a tuner of any choice make sure you get guages.

If I were to get a tuner It'd probably be the Edge Juice w/ Attitude(which is highly recommended by several people for what I am doing), which allows you to monitor up to 4 things at a time. I'd go with EGTs, Boost, Trans Temp. Right now I'm just interested in getting her to sound good. I may stick with a muffler so I could pass inspection legally.

If I had it to do over again I would get the DP or TW chip or tuner. I like my edge but will end up getting a DP or TW just my opinion.

Thanks for the reply. I have no cat, so I don't have a choice for the cat-back.
Doesn't matter. Get a turbo back. That will give you an efficient 4 in downpipe.

Oh but he will. DP-Tuner is almost like cocaine. Once you see what you can get out of them, you can never stop. AKA PMS (Powerstroke Modification Syndrome).

Here is what I recommend. Get a set of gauges first. Drive it for a bit so you get to know what your baseline is. When you dump a mod onto the truck, you can see what it does or does not do.

An intake and exhaust is always a good place to start. The more air you move through the engine the better it will run. These mods will also support the chip/tuner you are thinking of getting. MBRP makes some of the best systems on the market today. The T409 will develop some surface rust in time, but never rust through. T304 is the best of the best and will always look good and never rust. The T409 kits include 5" rolled edge tips and the T304 kits include 5" dual walled tips. Both systems include a lifetime warranty as well. For the intake, I suggest looking at either S&B or AFE stage II. S&B is fairly new to the market, but make a very high quality system with excellent flow and filtration numbers. The AFE Stage II unit is VERY large and provides excellent flow and filtration as well. Here are some links to the products mentioned. Feel free to give me a holler or shoot me a PM with any questions you may have.
Aklim, Any suggestions on gauges that will match the factory gauge cluster illumination?
Thanks DSTRBD. You definitely have the best price on the exhaust. If I order the Pro Series kit it comes with a down-tube?

Actually not. YOU need to go to ITP and see what they have and see what you like best. I though the Autometer Phantom were the best matching but I'm not really into asthetics so I got the basic 3. Pyro, Trans temp and boost. ITP Diesel, L.L.C.

Check out the Walker BTM for your exhaust. Drops the EGTS and a lot cheaper than a 4".
Yes but you can't compare the 2. One does not do anything for your downpipe and the other is a complete system. I wouldn't bother with the BTM. Why? Because it is cheaper to do it right the first time instead of doing it again. If you go with the BTM and need a 4 in downpipe, you have to buy the entire thing and your BTM sits there doing nothing
