Exhaust options???

Hey guys I needed some help with some options for my ehaust. I'm a college student so money is hard to come by but i've been looking to change my exhuast. I'm about to straight pipe my f250 and am kinda tired of the same 6'' tip i have come out the back. Some buddies think i should "dump" the exhuast with a turndown or do the side exit before the rear tire. Does one sound better than the other, any pros? cons? I'd appreciate the help.....thanks.

Just be sure the turndown is behind and not under the truck, else you could wake up dead.

Oh, sure. Then you can spend all your free time trying to clean the soot off the rear wheels.

Apparently your buddies don't know beans about a diesel pickup.

You must have a tailpipe that goes over the rear axle, then out the back or side. Or else "stacks" that go up through the bed then up higher than the top of the cab. Else you'll be sorry. Or dead.

Dumping sucks!!! Messy undercarriage & droaning, plus it kicks up dust everywhere. Don't dump it, you'll regret it. Side exit was cool for a while. I ran with no muffler & side exit for a while. Your right rear wheel & tire, and side of your truck will get black from soot. And, it's loud with the passenger window down. I'm running a Summit Racing 4" mandrel bent, turbo back exhaust with NO muffler. Best set-up so far. Sounds good, Looks good, on sale for $269.00. Way easy install. Aluminized is $269, Stainless is $439. summitracing.com. Have Fun, and Good Luck!!!

yea it sounded great haha LOUD! just the way i like it! The back rim did stay a little darker than all the other ones, but if you are religious about washing your truck you should have no problem with it

The turbo quiets the exhaust to a point so there isn't a lot of difference in sound. The big difference is exiting anywhere under the truck will produce a reverb that will travel throughout the truck.Around town it might sound cool but on the highway at that certain rpm it will be so annoying. If you are short on money just replace the stock muffler with a straight pipe or a racing muffler and leave the rest of the system stock.

I ran with the muffler for a bit, but removed it soon after the 4" turbo back install. The only major difference was the sound of the "Turbo Spool-Up". Sounds good, and the outside noise is tolerable. NO in cab difference in sound. In fact, I can't really hear the exhaust much inside the cab (Minimal) unless the windows are down. All in all, happy with the upgrade & changes. And, NO cats from the factory from 2003 (7.3L) back, even in California......

Not exactly true. All "early" '99s build before 7 Dec 1998 had a cat. And all hand shakers built after about October, 2000, had a cat to go along with their 275 ponies.

None of the '99.5 thru 2003 with 7.3L engine and automagic tranny had a cat.

I'll rephrase my last, MY 2003 PURCHASED 10/31/2002, BUILT AUGUST 2002, DID NOT COME WITH CATS............I know, 'cause I did the exhaust myself, along with most everything on that truck. AND, that's a CALIFORNIA truck (The Smog Everything State) where I've lived for 42 years. Hope that clears up my last mis-info!
