Sure glad this post is helping some of our newer members. Keep'em coming.

Never know who might just need the help and are hesitant about asking for help.

The first thing i noticed when I bought my truck is that the air filter barely has any squish from the top cover to make the seal it needs. an intake is on the top of my list.

The previous owner of my truck was a K&N fan. If I had done my home work, I never would have bought the truck. The turbo compressor wheel was beat to hell. Hopefully, I won't have engine problems later on. IMHO, K&N sucks!

K&N filters are good but not for these trucks...the fitment is poor as hell...I found out the 250 I bought had a K&N filter in it once I got home and its gone.

it was an early amsoil system that had no pressure when it first cranked..so it actually cause d more wear...or something to that effect.

ditching the broken tab oem air box is a good first step.
after that I imagine a coolant filter is a good one.

The dual remote bypass filter system from Amsoil was bypassing too much oil and the operating pressure was lower, especially on first startup. Those folks found that their wear metals were higher with the dual bypass even with normal oil drain intervals. The dual remote bypass is no longer recommended by Amsoil for our trucks as I understand it. I have noticed this since upgrading my HPOP. The pressure idiot gauge from Ford take longer to lift off the peg and my idle pressures are lower than before dual HPOPs. Wear metals are higher coinciding with the dual HPOP installation. I am going to install a relief valve set at 20 psi so the bypass does not filter the oil until the PSI is greater than 20.

DIESELSITE - DIESEL MAINTENANCE and PERFORMANCE
most popular coolant filter out there
also check out the 203 tstat and housing....he also has a similar tranny filter

6.0 tranny cooler is a great add on not cheap for what it is , you can actually get a 6.0 IC for less? (also works)

the fs2500 or the oilguard would be my choice for an oil bypass system.

Install a Motorcraft AIS and service you truck regularly. A EGT gauge should be also a priority.

After clean air and clean oil, transmission and differential fluid changes are next that come to mind.

What are some good, real world change intervals that could be recommended to newbies and others?

prolong engine lubricant , i run it on my 6.0 2 bottles in between oil changes
will run it on the 7.3 i picked up as well
been using it for years on my performance cars
took all the engine vibrations out of my 88 300zxt highly modified back in 1995
maybe saved my supercharged and bottle 01 z06 from blowing up at 680rwhp stock block and heads when it was only supposed to hold 600rwhp and not a pony more...
makes the engine feel like its on full roller bearings ..
