Going to crack my tranny's pan to fix shift flare, what else to fix?
My early 99 has a shift-flare that might be getting worse (or might be my imagination.) Truck is new to me, so I still haven't flushed tranny fluid yet, etc. I aim to go in there and flush out all fluid, open the pan, change the inboard filter, change the solonoid per the shift flare TSB ( http://www.ford-trucks.com/tsb/fullt...hp?tsb=99-8-1) to part # F81Z-7G391-CB.
What else (that is relatively easy.) should I swap/change while I am in there?

Change out your valvebody with one from Greg Evans (FTVB)sold at Dieselsite, or the BTS valvebody from BTS. You will love the way the truck will shift, no more long drawn out shifts, quick and to the point, which has to help prolong tranny life. PM me with any ???

Thanks NChornet, are both Dieselsite and BTS valvebodies rougly created equal?

The FTVB that is sold by DieselSite tends to shift firm at all times. The BTS one has a more progressive shifting nature where it is soft at low throttle and firm at heavy throttle. I have had both and liked the FTVB at first, but the firm shifting when just cruising around starts to wear on you plus I had a shift flare that I couldn't get rid of. Switched to the BTS-VB and starting enjoying my truck more and the shift flare went away. OH, and my tranny already had the upgraded shift solenoids.

You might want to double check the SP before buying a replacement as they are non returnable. If the on in there is green(I think) then it already is the correct one, if orange then it is the older style. I had the same problem and turns out the SP was already a later model and replacing it only made it worse. I have heard that swapping out the PCM to a later code corrects the shift flare on our models. I am going to try taht first before going through all the BS of replacing tranny parts. Besides I may just get it preloaded with the DP 80HP program.

Hold on a second....I may be wrong, but my understanding is the solenoid pack with the green plastic tabs is the OLD version and the Solenoid pack with the orange plastic tabs is the NEW one.

Notice the (I think) I couldnt remember which color, but you get the point. Mine was the current color, so swapping it out was useless.

I have a 2002 model with a severe case of Shift Flare. You stated that the Orange SP is the newest version. Did the '02's come with the Orange SP? or not?
Thanks.
