Upgrades and Aftermarket - 7.3L EngineUpgrading and adding aftermarket equipment to your 1999-Up Super Duty or Excursion with 7.3L Power Stroke diesel engine. Please confine discussion of topics in this forum to those items that are specific to the 7.3L Power Stroke engine.
I am looking for a CB radio for my 1999 Ford F-250 Super duty 6 speed. I would like a CB radio, to talk over it from time to time but mainly to listen to others talk. I would like on that has an auto scan feather too. I do not wont to spend a pile of money on the radio either. What kind should I think about getting? Also it should be rather small to, do to limited space in the truck. One other question have you ever seen the interior of the 1999 Super duty with a manual transmission where should I mount the radio?
Thank you for your time
Matt
Well, there are tons of choices. You don't want to spend a ton of money.... you want "Auto scan"? Don't have a clue what that is on a CB,,, How far do you want to be able to hear, and talk? Where to mount? Under the dash, or get an over head console, and mount it there. When installing, the absolute MOST IMPORTANT thing, is grounding. Ground the antenna well, and the radio well.
I have a Galaxie 44 that has been Peaked and Tweaked. With a Francis fiberglass stick antenna mounted in the center of my tool box lid. The lid has a ground strap to the body, and that is bolted to the bed. I converse for near 10 miles on the interstate to other strong mobile radios. I have talked almost 25 to a base. I have no external power adders. Just the radio, which dead keys about 7w and modulates around 38w.
This post will likely be moved, not an upgrade/aftermarket subject for the 7.3L motor! LOL

I have a cobra brand ... (model escapes me right now) the entire rig is in the handset ... though I have to wonder why the "no space" in a full size truck. What else is installed?
This little radio has a scan feature ... all 40 channels. It wasn't particularly cheap, though ... hundred bones TTL. But works fine w/ my fiberglass twins.
Ditto JimT on grounding ... if ya don't high SWRs will have you talking to yerself. Length of antenna will affect, too. Tune the SWR & you'll be a happy good buddy.
JCwhitney offers them, along with some other upfitters. Lund maybe, not sure what company makes them. I know I have seen them in several truck accessory catalogs.

i stuck mine on the dimple there between your legs and the cig. lighter under the map pocket on the lower dash area, i stuck my brake controller in the map pocket and cut out the back of it, so it stays out of the way. i hang my mic off the rear view but with the angle it wears out the cord connection into the cb after a year or so, ive replaced my mic 2 times now, i was gonna mount it on the ceiling but it would be too much of a pain to see in my opinion
