How do I know if I need an ITP Diesel Overboost Annihilator??

Check out my mods. My problem was I wasn't satisfied with my spool up time and the fact that I was only able to get about 22 psi. And it got there slowly. I unplugged the wastegate line and plugged it last night. What a difference. Spool up is much better, and I was able to hit 25 psi...which felt to pull much harder.

But how do I know if I'm throwing an overboost code? I have no SES light or anything like that. Am I still defueling and I don't know it?

I've been reading about people unplugging the wastegate line and it seems as long as I'm not going over about 25 psi, I shouldn't hurt my turbo at all.

Thanks guys,
Steve

if your truck was de-fueling it should throw an ses light that will clear after about 60-90 seconds if you drive normal. I believe 22-23 psi is where you should see a light. i put the boosst annihilator on mine and it cleared it up,but it seemed to slow my spool time down

not to hijack the forum, but what's the advantages or disadvantages to removing the red line to the wastegate?
Will this be better or worse for regular street driving?

Re: How do I know if I need an ITP Diesel Overboost Annihilator??

From my experience -

Advantage, More boost pressure at higher RPMS, since the wastegate is not activated by the computer anymore. It'll still activate on it's own when the wastegate pressure exceeds the actuator spring pressure.

Disadvantage - I think it contributed to the early demise of my stock turbo, but I drove the truck hard, so I really don't have any solid proof that pulling the line toasted my turbo (over time). BUT, I do think it contributed to it.

I saw a 5-6 pound improvement at max boost, but the truck stopped falling on it's face as much as when the wastegate opened. I do think it will improve your top-end performance, but (like everything) you risk wearing out the OE component faster.

As far as "regular street driving" - well now, that depends on how heavy your right foot is . I noticed the most improvement when merging into traffic on the freeway or when pulling a hill with a load. Or when toying with the little ricer that pulled up next to me. . . Re: How do I know if I need an ITP Diesel Overboost Annihilator??

So far I really like how it drives with the line pulled and plugged. I don't floor my truck very often at all. I do about 90% of my driving in the highway. What I've noticed is at about half throttle, the turbo spools quicker and the truck really seems like it wants to move.

Then when I do punch it, it really pulls hard. And like I said, I'm not seeing more than 25 lbs of boost. So I doubt I'm hurting anything.

Re: How do I know if I need an ITP Diesel Overboost Annihilator??

I'm getting about 25-26 psi boost on mine with my edge set on "race", it sets the SES but doesn't seem to de-fuel because it doesn't just stumble and quit. SES light won't go out until I stop and cycle the ignition. I know, I know..... I am planning on upgrading to a DP chip soon (and a D66) but I was thinking that I'm getting about all the boost the stock turbo is gonna give me? Also get some black smoke which I think the D66 may help to clean up.

Your SES may be a P1211 which is the HPOP running out. You need to check it out first.

I thought about that after I posted. I have the AE software coming next week so that I can some diagnosis/readings on all the systems. I have been also following the threads on "Big Oil" and thinking that will be an upgrade soon!
Thanks
