How do you answer a question like this???

"How much PSI can a PSD handle?" A friend asked after he saw a pic of a twin turbo setup.

Umm... I don't know?

Any input?

Re: How do you answer a question like this???

A stock PSD will pop its headgaskets at around 40-45psi from what I have read on this site over the years.

There are a few guys running 35psi and have not had a problem.

The cummins inline 6 can handle into the 50-60 range before they pop their headgaskets, but thats not fair to compare as their head design is alot more robust.

Those arent exact numbers, but are pretty close.

Re: How do you answer a question like this???

and i ask what does psi have to do with the amount of air your moving?

if a stock turbo at 25 psi only moves 900 CFM (example I don't know the real #)

and

a HE2 at 25 psi moves 1200 cfm (ie)

why do we measure and judge every thing on psi when we really want max CFM becuase more means more power(if you have extra fuel) or am i missing some thing here.

thank you in advance for helping me sort out my confusion.

[/ QUOTE ]Good point, we have measured over 1,200cfm on my truck using the TAGs on a stock turbo at 26psi. Plenty of power and torque without the high boost pressure or smoke. More air is a good thing and at the lower boost pressures you also have lower exhaust back pressures against the engine which makes it run more efficently.
