How to get that "whistle" noise?

Hey guys, there's 2 trucks running around here, one a 7.3, the other a 6.0. When they give em fuel, all I here is the turbo whistling and I'm wondering how to achieve that on my 7.3? I'm guessing an aftermarket turbo but I'm not sure.....

Thanks.

straight pipe exhaust and an open element air filter would be a good start.

I've got the straight pipe exhaust but still run stock intake with a wix filter. My turbo can be heard but not like these two guys. I just personally love the sound!!

You could try one of those "turbo" ricer exhaust tips

Seriously though, they probably have straight exhausts.
You could start with a muffler delete pipe on your stock exhaust

Apparently you didn't catch the fact that he has no muffler on his exhaust. I don't know if you need to do the air filter thing...you hear my turbo decent from inside the cab, but I've heard my truck on the outside, and there's alot more whistle than I've normally heard on straight piped 7.3's.

Next time try to catch one and see if they still even have the stock turbo. Otherwise it could be someone running straight pipes, afe or comparable intake, did a foil delete and put in a wicked wheel (personally don't like the staggered compressor wheel = less boost) and all this one the 7.3. Don't know too much on 6.0 turbo except the variable part (my dad has a 6.0 turbo open right now so I got to see all of it).

The less boost doesn't equal less horsepower. I don't see what the fascination is with big boost numbers, I'd rather make 500hp with only 9psi versus 450 with 27psi.

You need an intake. I did an intake long before exhaust and I was able to hear way more turbo. I did a DIY Tymar type intake, one of my buddies has a K&N FIPK cold air intake, both of ours whistle like mad, my other buddy has the Ford Severe Duty intake - that is a more closed system and his is quieter than ours.

So buy an intake if you want the turbo noise.

Since we are dealing with a stock turbo.... more boost does equal more power. Psi just tells you how much pressure there is in the pipes, not the amount of air. I never said anything about going over 25psi on a stock turbo. If you want to run lower boost you will not achieve the same power (other modifications aside for reference purposes). So, I do not like dropping below a 'normal' turbos boost number for the sake of noise.

I have the wicked wheel and with the bts chip I can easily hit 30 to 35 lbs of boost with a stock turbo. Before you say it I know that's not good for the turbo. I didn't say I run it there, just that I can if I wanted to. I have everything that these guys are stating and the whistle is better than normal but I know the sound your talking about. It seems like the turbo is screaming even while idiling. I don't know how they do it what I wish I did.

The biggest increase in whistle comes from a free flowing air filter. With less restriction the turbo will spool quicker.

Per Jody's instructions I installed the AFE part number 73-80006 and the whistle started becoming loud. I did this several days ago. Today, again as instructed by Jody at DP, I had the Walker muffler ( 21470 ) installed and man what a masive change. Almost like a totally different truck. The thing whistles big time and is much louder at acceleration. At idle I almost did not notice a difference. It is hard to keep my foot out of it now. I love this sound. Now I have 2 more things to install, Brian's valve body and Jody's F6 tunner. Oh and I got the Phantom II gauges installed last night and those things look trick at night.
