don't bother putting the K&N back in...if you need to save up some coin at least see if you can gather up ~$50 for a homeade 6637 filter setup...

I second that FEVER..

Throw away the K&N, they are crap and too harmful for diesel engines.

The AIS kit sure is nice..... keep saving. Hopefully it'll still be on sale in a couple of months.

Re: I have a purple torque converter... what is it?

Sounds like you might have a BTS tranny, what kind of records does Brian have, can he tell you if he did the tranny from VIN?

You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Doubt it, he doesn't have my VIN. Maybe a serial number off the trans.

BTW that purple paint changes color when you overheat the trans. So there's a reason for that paint.

Re: I have a purple torque converter... what is it?

I don't believe the 01's have a drain plug on the TC, I believe 2000 was the last year for it. Don't know if I would have bought a truck with a K&N in it, you may have gotten a great tranny and a dusted engine. Not to scare you though, check your turbo fan and see if it has any chipped or rounded edges, hopefully the PO was a city slicker in LA, and not driving much out in the desert!!

I've got the same torque converter (purple PI) - there's no drain plug. Enjoy the new toy!

Re: I have a purple torque converter... what is it?

Even some early '02s had a drain in the T/C. Mute point though since he has a rebuilt '01. If it were mine I sure would like to know who's rebuild I had in there. I don't know how you would find out without contacting the "repo-ed owner" and I doubt he would be happy to talk to you about it.

Re: I have a purple torque converter... what is it?

Maybe you can see if Brian writes the date on his transmissions, I will look at mine to see if I can see any writing on it when I get back under it to put the UP-Pipes back on. If you got a BTS, heck, you got 4,000+ more for the truck. Brian may be able to tell from the date, what he did. Also Being in CA, it most likely was a "Shipped" one if it is a BTS. So he wouldn't recognize the truck, (Yes, I think he does remember alot of them,,,)Even though he works on so many now,,,,

Re: I have a purple torque converter... what is it?

Kevin,

Just for a frame of reference my 01 (built in 00) transmission replaced with 41k miles in 02/03 can't remember but later than 01 has a drain plug on my TQ.

FYI ..

Re: I have a purple torque converter... what is it?

The writing is on the passenger side of the tranny where the bell housing starts. Black fine marker.... I better take another look. LOL

Ya, I'd be interested to know who did the rebuild and what parts are in it. Feels like maybe a valve body but who knows on the rest.

I haven't looked to see if it's the OE cooler or a larger one yet.

Maybe Brian from BTS keeps serial numbers from the trannies? Have to look.

Yes, I think it was mostly babied it's whole life. The receiver hitch has very little wear, barely any rust from safety chains on it either. My buddy thought it may have pulled a trailer on occasion but nothing heavy or frequent use. Not a scratch on the exterior and interior is in very good shape too. Like you said, looks like an LA truck.

Re: I have a purple torque converter... what is it?

If your turbo fins are clean and smooth it sounds like you got yourself a decent rig. BTW my '02 had a drain plug on the TC but it was replaced around 70k miles by Ford, and I don't know about the original TC's status.
