I need brakes on my 99 (5/98) DRW Ferd. The last time i had it on the lift for an oil change i took a look around the truck and noticed one of my rotors was almost gone! Almost down to the cooling fins.
I dont have any warpage in the front to speak of and the braking performance currently is great, the truck will stop on a dime. BUT the ABS light is on and im having communication problems with the ALDL at the moment.
I have seen quite a few members rave over the powerslot but i couldnt find any DRW applications, did i not look hard enough? I would like to upgrade the pads and rotors because eventually i will be towing two cars to the race track once a week on a goose neck trailer.
I was also checking out exhaust and CAI kits, i saw a few members post a link to a 250 dollar exhaust and a 280 dollar CAI, both looked very nice. Opinions? Other options?
I have maybe1000 Dollars to spend on brakes, exhaust and intake. I dont race this truck or want to get big dyno numbers. Just want to haul my race cars one a week and drive it around town when needed.
Truck is a 6spd if that matters, Completely stock, with 195k, 4 door, 2wd, DRW! Id like to get this stuff in and installed before thanksgiving.
Also, the wife and i went out to grab some take out pizza, was a bout 15 minutes. We were checking out the under hood of the truck to pass the time. (trying to get a look at the HPOP, because i pretty sure its leaking) and i popped open the air filter... HOLY CRAP. Ive only had this truck for a few months maybe 5000 miles. It has a k&n drop in filter with a blue rag stuffed under it! The fitler was packed with dirt, dead bugs, acorns, grass, it was nasty, worst ive ever seen. I walked over to advanced and grabbed a paper filter and stuck that in and threw away the k&n, it looked too far gone to clean.
Your Ford dealer might even meet that price with a little arm twisting.

Thanks. I was hoping to find a good after market rotor but OEM will do fine. I found a few after market ones but i really dont want to take a chance on a product that may be inferior especially with how much of an ordeal it is to change the rear brakes.
Thanks again for your input, i know a few people at a local ford dealership, im going to send my buddy an email tonight.
I'm still luvin my 409 stainless magnaflow from Nate too. Spend the extra $100 for stainless. Well worth it.
When I bought my truck it had a BLACK K&N in it too. Nasty stuff.
Forget slotted rotors. Waste of time. They will eat your pads in 1/2 the time. Get cross-drilled if you go aftermarket.
Neither will give better in-the-rain performance but testing shows cross-drilled run cooler under extreme braking, slightly less fade than OE. I found some good articles on it last time people were arguing over this.
I also had nothing but good luck with them on my previous F150. No more warping either which was a big headache on that truck with OE stuff.
I've gotta change my brakes front/rear in a month or two, going cross-drilled magnum brand. They also do cryo-treating which is supposedly even better but can't speak from experience.
Eh, i dont think i can justify stainless here in south carolina. Ive never had an exhaust system fall apart on me here. I dont think stainless offers any kind of performance gains so... It would just be for looks on my truck and im not a big fan of "show".
The ford rotors and pads are a quality product. They offer rotors with better tolerances than most aftermarket and the pads are a great formula.
I just replaced my front brakes with all oem for about $10 more than any parts store price. Since the originals made 75000 miles, I'm happy with that life.

There are two kinds of stainless. 304 stainless is the expensive chrome-looking beautiful stuff that will impress the heck out of your grease monkey. But my 409 stainless is ugly - it looks just like rusty steel after a few months. But the rust is on the surface only, and the 409 stainless exhaust system will outlast the rest of the truck. BTW, your Ford factory stock exhaust system was made out of 409 stainless.
But you're right that the stainless won't offer any performance advantages over the mandrel-bent aluminized-steel performance exhaust systems. So if the steel exhaust system will last as long as you require, then save the money and get the cheaper steel. But spend the big bucks for a 6" exhaust tip made out of 304 stainless.

But yeah, i really dont think the climate here will justify stainless. Im 40 miles out from the coast, and i try to stay away from the beach. I like to put my boat in the lake, or if i do go in salt i put the boat in up river and just go down the river into brackish water. It only hits 30's here maybe 2 or 3 weeks out of the year, so no snow, hence, no salt on roads.
The exhaust on my old mans 1500 dodge is from 97 and looks great, (SC truck) i should know ive been under that stupid dodge quite a bit.
Just so you're aware, the reason a lot of factory exhausts look great after many years.....the OE exhaust I had under my 2001 powerstroke was 409 stainless. Ford had brains, but made it a bit too restrictive, most of which is the fault of the OE muffler. Most of the new vehicles these days have 409 grade systems.
My brakes on my 2000 F250 @ 100M were like new. I thought 2000 was the first year for rear disc barkes. If that rear rotor was worn that much compared to the rest you might concider installing preloaded calipers too.
