I'm ready to upgrade my 7.3.

I have a bone stock 2000 F250 Supercab, and Im ready to start making it my own.

First off, gauges. I read alot about them, especially the EGT. Where is the best place to get them?

Second, fuel economy. I like my economy, Currently Im getting 22-24mpg. I know, better exhaust and Intakes help alot. Any thoughts there?

Thirdly, Interrior/ Exterrior Upgrades. I was wondering where to get the towing mirrors, and the better headlights. I like the stock lights on my neighbors 2005 F250, He says its stock. What about an overhead cluster that I can store sunglasses in, and possibly a digital gauge that shows a compass and temperature?

Lastly, I need a new bed and tailgate. Previous owner crashed into a firehydrant and filled it with about 2inches of bondo. Its cracking all over the place. Anyone know where to find a new one other than the junkyard?

Great questions. I like pillar gauges for ease of sight. This is the kit I bought - ISSPRO EV2 Gauge Kits for Ford Powerstroke from DieselManor

What I did, though, was get a quad pillar instead of the three holer. I used the fourth slot to put my DP-Tuner switcher in. Looks good.

As far as MPG - if you are really getting those numbers - don't jinx it. That's great. Ford Severe Duty AIS or Tymar. I didn't get a significant boost in MPG out of that, but I know I'm breathing clean air. The turbo is the restriction point, so really increasing pipe size is just for looks. Getting rid of a cat if you have one and putting a straight through muffler (like the Walker BTM) is all you need to do.

Can't help you much with the interior. I see beds for sale all over the place at companies that do utility bed conversions. You might call around and see if a company like that exists. I think you can use the bed from 99-2007 without any modifications.

I wasnt even aware that Diesels had cats in 2000, how would I know if it has one? Im fairly certain its original exhaust.

I have a manual transmission, so what could I use instead of trans temp? Just plain oil temp seems like it would be good.

Ill take a look at airfilters later. Right now the only place I can purchase an air filter from is the dealership because aparently my truck came with a few factory modifications. Found that out the first time I went to change my filter and it wouldnt fit. I know its not the ford severe duty. Im not sure what it is to be honest, but it matches my vin number.

I wonder if 2007+ tailgates would fit my truck? I love the ladder inside the tailgate.

Fuel pressure is a great gauge. Water temp or oil temp would be ok. Oil pressure is a good one. I probably watch my fuel pressure most out of the ones I have in addition to the EGT/trans temp / boost.

Climb under your truck. If you have anything other than a straight pipe at the level of the front passenger side door, you have a cat. They came on manual trucks in 99-00. The muffler is further back - like at the rear of the back doors on a crew cab.

I'm pretty sure the 07 tailgate will fit. Have you seen this guy's truck: 1999.5 to 2012 F-250 Nose Swap Conversion Done!!!

When I bought a bed for mine I got it from Dick's Automotive in Middleburry, IN. Its a drive from you at about 3 hours. I bought my bed for 1500. It was new, white with tailgate and lights. Not sure if they had a tailgate with the ladder in it or not, I did not ask.

Your mpg's hand checked?

Don't think any mod will get you any more mpg's if those mpgs are accurate.

We sell Isspro's..I like the EV1's personally.

We have all the aftermarket items needed but as stated....

We also have true Projection Hids...best lighting you can get.

re: I'm ready to upgrade my 7.3.

Cool info about the bed. Ill try to find the place.

Yeah, my mpg's are hand checked.

Im not expecting any more, mostly just modifications that will help the engine last longer. It has plenty of power, and I dont need any more.

Also would like a better rumble from the exhaust. I dont want louder persay, but a good rumble would be nice. Plus its starting to rust out in a few select areas.

I want the engine mods first, and ill go from there. First on my list is the FRx system from Riffraff, followed by gauges. Still havent made up my mind about the gauges.

re: I'm ready to upgrade my 7.3.

Also, I understand 23mpg is hard to believe on a 7.3L, but keep inmind..... Most of the time Im on I88(highway) doing 55mph with cruise control on. I live right off the highway, and I work about 1mile from the highway, and its a 70mile drive one way.

Also, whatever my truck saves me on fuel, it spends it in oil. I put about 2-3quarts a week in it... And it doesnt leak at all

Check your fuel filter. You may be dumping your oil into your fuel. Might be time to replace the injector orings.

There is another member here that I know that has the same issue. his truck does not leak, but drinks the oil. He found oil in the filter bowl. worth checking out.

Been there, done that.... Even had them flow tested. And, Im changing out #3 injector today.

In terms of mods, im also planning on doing the CCV mod, and the FRx system. Also, the AIS Severe Duty or the S&B Oiled Element?

I want exhaust, was thinking about Diamond Eye 4" Dual, or Magnaflow 4" Dual. Anyone ever hear these on a 7.3? I dont want loud, just more throat.

I see alot about tuners. What sort of things do these do to your truck? Im not in terrible need for a racetruck, however sometimes I haul a gooseneck with 10,000lbs.

Also, what about an AIH Delete plug? Will that affect a cold start any? I dont see how it would.

I would NOT do the CCV mod. If you eventually upgrade your boots, the oily residue problem will be solved. Most of the time, the only difference you notice with the CCV mod is the blow by gasses hovering around your truck.

The AIH mod will not affect cold starting. The gain is just reducing airflow restriction by removing the heater.

I would go with the Ford Severe Duty AIS. Oiled filters require a lot of maintenance and are not anywhere close to as affective as the Donaldson filter once they get a little dusty.

I didn't get a huge jump in MPG when I installed my tuner. What I did get was a huge improvement in performance. It is like going from an underpowered Taurus to an overpowered Mustang with no change in MPG. You will HATE yourself for not doing it sooner.
