Looking for a programmer/chip that meets these criteria...
I'm looking for a programmer or chip that does timing, duration, and boost fooling. I do NOT want to increase my fuel pressure though. Is there a programmer that would meet these criteria? I'm new to Fords so I am not very knowledgeable in this particular area. Any advice appreciated.

It's the tune, not the hardware, that does those things. DP-Tuner has tunes that will do that, and more. Call them and discuss exactly which of their tunes you need, or perhaps you'd prefer for Jody to write a tune to meet your exact specs. Yes, he can do that. After you know the tune you want, then you can decide which hardware to warp around the tune.
click on: DP-Tuner
Their "code" tunes means they will not set codes for boost and a few other things. Call them and discuss exactly what you need.
Others will toot the horn of Tony Wildman or the Thompson kid at BTS.

Thanks very much for the input SmokeyWren, but I was hoping to find a more commercialized type of programmer. Maybe one that I could buy off craigslist or something where I don't have to drop tons of cash on custom tunes. I just didn't know if there were any major brand names (Bully Dog, Edge, BD, etc...) that may have a programmer or chip that already meets these criteria. I used to be a Dodge guy, and I had a Smarty Jr. which was safe to use without gauges and had 3 basic settings. Fuel economy, towing, and performance. The max hp gain was only 100 hp, and with the timing adjustments and such it actually served to lower egt's, slightly increase fuel mileage while increasing hp. In addition it would serve as a code reader and tire size adjustment as well. I was very happy with it, and this would be along the same lines of what I am looking for. The main thing is that I just don't want to increase my fuel pressure.

Call Jody at DP. They are quite a bit cheaper than you think and you can always adjust the tuner as you go on. It holds up to 16 tunes you can switch on the fly, and if you buy the F6 you can change the tunes over the internet. Jody can pretty much make your truck do calculus. It is totally worth the extra cash over some off the shelf tuner. They sell used for pretty much what they cost new so if you sell the truck, you can always sell the tuner very easily.
When I got my tune from Jody, it was $79 for the tune, and shipping to get him my PCM and back again. I highly doubt you'll ever find an off-the-shelf 'box' tuner for that cheap. Seriously, call him and you will NOT regret it. Just be ready, he REALLY knows what he is talking about.

Good and cheap don't usually go together.

Torqmnstr, as Smokey says, do not do any power upgrades with a tuner, or programer, without gauges. Don't know about your Dodge, but aluminum still melts at 1250 degrees, constant. And its like I like to say, gauges won't keep you from dusting your engine, but, they should let you know when you are about to. New engine, approx. $10,000.

Ok, thanks for all the input guys. I guess the thing I would like to have the most is a code reader, but I thought if there was a widely distributed tuner that did not increase my fuel pressure and allowed me get some extra mileage for my highway driving, then I might keep my eye open for one on craigslist that is listed for a good price.

I don't follow the fuel pressure thing. It is my understanding that fuel pressure does not enter into the chip mods. Is that wrong???
jgr
I'm not as knowledgeable about the Ford programmers and chips, but I know on my Dodge that I used to have, many of the programmers would add HP by increasing rail pressure which would eat stock injectors alive over time and in some cases end up cracking the injector which could cause you to wash down a cylinder. On the Fords, since the injectors are linked to the oil pressure and such, I just don't like the idea of increasing the pressure. It's not so much that I am concerned with the injectors themselves like I was on my Dodge.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Completely different design of the fuel injection system. You can forget worrying about fuel pressure. Our trucks have a HEUI injection system (hydraulic-actuated electronic controlled unit injection). The oil system has two parts, the normal engine oil system, and the high-pressure oil system used to fire the injectors. The "hydraulic-actuated" means there is a high-pressure oil pump (HPOP) that's used to create that high fuel pressure. Fuel pressure is relatively low in the rails, and then the HEUI adds humoungous amounts of fuel pressure inside the injector before the injector fires the fuel into the combustion chamber. So normally a tuner doesn't mess with fuel pressure. There are other parameters they can manipulate to change the tune from mild to wild or something in between.
And if you want to hot-rod your engine way up into the horsepower heaven, then one of the mods you'll need is a new HPOP - so your new, bigger, HEUI injectors can fire more fuel into the combustion chamber.
