Alright. Drives me crazy this question gets asked over and over, but I'll swallow my pride and ask because I'm too lazy to search threads. The TC goes in pre-turbo. Got that part. However where the two manifolds converge, where exactly should I mount it. If I hit one side or the other, will it affect anything,or is there no chance of one bank running hotter than the other. Do I need to pull the turbo to get in thereor is there a trick.

IMHO, don't worry about trying to measure the temp on both sides, just drill a hole in either the left up pipe, or the left manifold near where they come together, install the probe and be happy. Have a look on this site, and there are lots of pics and suggestions.
If there is any temp difference between the right and left bank, you don't need to know or care. If there is a BIG difference, there will be other indications to worry about.

I will mention that my Bully Dog system has the capacity to moniter a Pyro 1 and a Pyro 2. However, I have not used the second feature because I agree with pristine that if you have excessive heat on one side over the other you have a bigger issue that will demontstrate itself with other symptoms.

I agree with those guys. Crawl under the truck with your head under the oil filter and look up to the exhaust manifold. Drill the hole in the neck of the manifold about an inch from the flange for the up pipe. You can either tap that hole for a screw-in thermocouple, or use a big hose clamp and clamp it into that hole. Or you can also drill the hole in the up pipe about an inch from the flange for the manifold - but only for a clamp-in thermocouple. The metal in the up pipe is not thick enough to tap threads into it for a screw-in thermocouple.
Or if you want to do it the hard way, then weld a threaded bung into a hole in the up pipe, then use a screw-in thermocouple in that bung.

Go to dieselManor.com,They show both methods. go to resources and hit Install sheets. you can either pick that location if thats the type of set up you have, or if you have a screw in mount I prefer the manifold itself. Just go straight forward from there about an inch infront of the flange like Smokey said. If you pick the manifold and you have hose clamp to secure probe put hose clamp around manifold first to mark your spot to drill first so you know there is no interferance in that location. WEAR EYE PROTECTION when drilling !!! Important to drill correct size hole for your screw in bung. Some are 1/8 pipe thread and others are 1/4 pipe (NPT) thread.

I got mine from Bully Dog w/ the triple dog and outlook. The instructions, which are both in the supplied booklet and online at their site, tell you the advantages of the before and after turbo locations. I put mine before. I bought the specified tap with it's accompanying drill bit, no need to skimp by using an old bit or tap- a mistake here would mean piles of headaches- laid under the truck, drilled a pilot hole, drilled the actual hole, taped the hole, crawled out from under the truck and started the engine to blow out any metal shavings- expecting that the hole was the area of least resistance and the air would go out of there before it went to the turbo, thereby keeping the shavings away from the turbo and the inside of the engine- then I crawled back under the truck and installed the pyrometer.
It did take some time, no need to rush, but the pipe was easy to drill and tap.
Keep the drill bit and tape well oiled. 3 in 1 oil works well.
