Ran the 7.3 on the dyno - stock and with superchips

Ran the 02 7.3 Excursion on our dyno today. The dyno is a dynojet model 248H.

Stock numbers were 208hp and 407 tq.

Borrowed a superchips programmer from a friend, just to try it.
With the 60hp superchips program, truck made 237hp and 466tq.
With the 80hp "off road" program, the truck made 254hp and 501tq. Those are the peak numbers.

I will add, that it did make close to claimed gains at 3300rpm. At 3300rpm the 60hp program made 51 extra hp, and the 80hp program made 79 more hp.

Overall, I am not too impressed by the superchips programer.

Just wanted to pass this info along.

Chris

Re: Ran the 7.3 on the dyno - stock and with superchips

Was it just the SCMT 1700? I had one in my early 99, and was quite happy with it. I made 279hp and 560 tq with mine in my EARLY 99, with the smaller turbo/intake plenums and injectors. It's SOTP felt strong too. (This was the first SCMT for us I think, and had no code reader or anything, just a 60/80 hp setting.)
However with the chips now, and the different tuners,(People doing the tuning now) it is much easier to get more power, and a smoother powerband with their tunes.
And I did try one of the SCMT 1705s in that truck, I didn't think the 115hp setting felt as strong as the 80 from my old one.

Re: Ran the 7.3 on the dyno - stock and with superchips

That is correct, it was the SCMT 1700.

Did you ever dyno your 99 stock? I wonder if your truck was stronger to start then mine, or if your's just responded better to the tuner. What other mods did you have at the time?

thanks,

Chris

Re: Ran the 7.3 on the dyno - stock and with superchips

Greg, a good daily driver would be if you gave me that motor you're building...

I hear it would fit right in an excursion...

Trade you for my 7.3. Deal???

Re: Ran the 7.3 on the dyno - stock and with superchips

Most other Tuners 75hp programs are stronger feeling than the 80hp Superchip program.

I have had two Powerstrokes now that I had a superchip in and then moved on to a different chip. The first was my 99 and now my 2002. In the 99 I went to a Diesel Innovations 4way chip and the 2002 a TS performance 6way chip.

I have never dynoed either of the trucks but just the SOTP dyno says the superchip programming is conservative. I would say that the 80hp SC is more like the TS performance 50hp setting.

Re: Ran the 7.3 on the dyno - stock and with superchips

I have a ts chip on the way... may be here today in fact. I'm sure the next time we are running the dyno i'll strap it down and see what it does.

I'll let you know.
