Re: Read Something Interesting

Dumbest thing I have read in a long time. denser air= poor milage I guess I need to live higher up so I can get better milage.

Re: Read Something Interesting

You guys are some hard butts. Did you know that part of the reason it is 'darker' during the winter is because the air is more dense and it is harder for the light to penetrate the molecules?

Some of you just aren't men of science, no shame in that, I like the thread tho.

I always thought it was darker in the winter because of the change in the earths axis. Buy maybe your talking about how it's a little darker during the daylight hours in the winter, compaired to summer day light hours.

Man, are we getting off topic here. Dense air + winter blend diesel = crappy MPG. On the few cold days we get down here in GA, my truck does seem to have a little more pep from a take off, hense no drag at low speeds. HWY driving may have different results. I do know while training for pilots license, the difference in take off speed compaired to a warm day and a cool night was litterally night and day. On a cool night, take off could be achieved at a much slower gound speed compaired to a warm day. I guess we could test our trucks in the same manner during spring weather. Cool nights, warm days. Drive 100 miles on a cool night, then 100 miles on a warm day on the same HWY and see which one gets better mileage. Any vouleenteers?

Yep. Axis shift causes winter sunlight (in the northern hemisphere) to travel through more atmosphere to reach us. IIRC, the Earth is actually *closer* to the Sun in the winter.

Re: Read Something Interesting

Diesel and Gas engines have lower fuel economy during the winter because the engine burns a lot more fuel getting up to operating temperature.

Re: Read Something Interesting

Sounds good to me. That means global warming is natures way of compensating for all this fuel we are burning. Heat things up a bit and we will burn less fuel.
