There have been a lot of discussions on these Magnefine filters and whether to install them before or after the coolers and how many miles should be the cutoff of when to install them where. Here is what I did. I installed one at around 22K miles on my stock tranny at the first fluid change and ran it till almost 47K miles and had it installed pre coolers. At 33K I had basically a new tranny installed when I got my BTS so the pic below is with about 11K stock tranny and 14K on basically a new tranny. If the amount of gunk on the filter which you can't really see (trust me it was as nasty as what was on the magnet ), the wavey stuff on the round magnet is the "tranny mud" that the Magnefine picked up before it went thru my coolers to collect there or go back into the tranny. I've done a lot of tranny fluid changes over the last 40yrs and cleaned a lot of "tranny mud" off the in pan magnets and what I saw on this Magnefine almost puts those others to shame.
Mark's original advise of installing this pre coolers if you haven't had an issue I think was spot on since all that "stuff" on the magnet in the below pic would have had a chance to lodge in the coolers along with the non magnetic stuff caught by the filter. Needless to say I'm please with this and at around $25 it is a great investment IMO which some will disagree with but that's O.K.
Pics of the crappy internal fuel pump filter which everyone is relying on will be posted tomorrow and your screen door might be a better filter

Your findings are very similar to mine in what I have seen in these Magnefine filters. I believe in them if used and serviced properly. I have some pics of a dissembled Magnefine filter and many more parts that I haven't had time to edit and post them.

I would hate to see what is going on in the last few weeks inside mine. Just got that new chip put in ya know.
I will be the first guy on here with a PSP filter, and probably last
