Shift Points: How firm is "too firm"?

Any time I run my Griffin CS in mode 1 (tow safe) my shift points are noticeably very firm, maybe a little too firm. When pulling a hill sometimes I get a very noticeable “CLUNK” when it shifts into overdrive. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this with an Edge or Griffin programmer in the tow mode.

I’m running what I think is a stock original 4R100. I bought the truck at auction with 180K on it and it now has 220K. Samples sent to Blackstone all indicate normal wear levels in the tranny.

Shifts that are too firm won't cause abnormal wear. It causes broken parts. I don't have a good way to tell you what is too firm without instrumenting a truck and measuring the torque in the driveshaft during the shift.
