SP Diesel TC lock-up kit

Finally got this installed and tested a couple of times...not sure I'm doing it right. If I create the lock-up point at around 22-23 mph with no load (not towing, that is), then it's locking and unlocking at every traffic light while running around town...and the shift point is HARSH! This doesn't seem right.

When I disengage the lock-up feature, the shift is smooth as silk. Soooo...should I just leave the lock-up controller off until I'm towing? And, is my TC locking up at the factory setting of 37 mph when the controller is off? I thought that the LED light would be on if the TC locks up, but if the control unit is off, the light, of course, does not light up and I'm not sure the TC is locked. With no load, not sure it makes any difference, tho.

Any ideas?

I very quickly determined that less than 30 MPH lockup or unlock speed is too low. Right now I'm using around 35 MPH lockup speed and 30 MPH unlock speed.

If you unplug the module from the harness, then the torque converter lock and unlock speeds return to whatever is programmed into the PCM.

Is it necessary to unplug the control module for this? If you erase the setpoint memories (by hitting "coast") or shut down the cruise control operation (by hitting "on") does it not default to PCM settings?

My torque converter lock and unlock speeds work when the cruise control is "on". It's the exhaust brake part that doesn't work when the cruise control is on.

The "coast" button on the steering wheel doesn't kill the torque converter controller settings unless you first hold down the "off" button for over 2 seconds. That puts you in exhaust brake or programming mode. In programming mode, then the cruise button will kill the current settings.

I do know that when I reprogrammed the lock and unlock speeds to 35 and 30, it did just fine after that. I don't know what the result would be of killing the current settings without replacing them with different settings. But I suspect the torque converter would not lock at all.

(I've had mine only a few weeks, and haven't towed with it yet.)

I know that to set the lock point, I activate the programming mode (CC "off" button held for two secs), run it up to, say, 35 mph, then hit "set". How do I set the unlock speed? Just let it back down to 30 and hit "resume"? Guess I'm still trying to figure this thing out. And, as to the "hot" button on the control module...it supposedly gives a momentary lock-up when hit. Why would one do this?

But you're suggesting that if I don't set something, the TC is not locking at all......unless I actually unplug the control module. That's scary. Sounds like I should unplug the module unless I am towing. Can't see a real reason to change the PCM default setpoints unless towing. Does that make sense?
