Simply put, it's a switch that completes a ground from the pcm to tell the torque converter to lock up before the pcm would normally tell it to. It also is an instant lock up instead of a slow smooth lock up like the pcm would send. You simply install a wire from a wire in the harness to a switch and then to a ground. Get the rpms above 1200, throw the switch and the torque converter locks. If you don't back off the throttle a little it slams into full lock. The only way it could make more smoke is because the engine basically bogs down from the shift and then would have too much fuel going to it until the turbo spools back up. The purpose is to put ALL the power to the wheels at one time and earlier than the pcm would do it. I use it to keep the trans mission from unlocking while pulling the camper. Also for keeping the torque converter locked while holding the truck back when going down the mountain roads.

If you compare it to manual trans, when you let out on the clutch there is no slippage which allows you to lug the engine(you could be in second at 10mph). An automatic at slow speeds and low RPMs will slip or be in a low enough gear which would prevent the engine from lugging.
The TC lockup would allow you to lock the converter(stop slippage). So you could be at slow speeds or low RPMs, stomp the go pedal, and cause over fueling and black smoke.
With my programmer and no TC lock up, my stock tranny likes to slip into 4th gear a little early(40-45mph, 1200rpm) if I'm accelerating slowly. Sometimes when I'm wanting to fog someone, I let it slip into 4th a little early and mash the pedal about 3/4 of the way down. If you mash it to the floor at 45mph it will down shift and the air clears up pretty quick after that.

P.S...Could you shorten up that signature so you don't have to scroll down to Mexico to read all the posts?

If you have a good chip there shouldnt be any problem getting it to smoke with out having to do the t/c lockup

my DP-Tuner chip on the 40hp setting will smoke but on the 140 aggressive it will smoke out any cummins around here.

a chip is the best way to make it...it also improves power substancially, and can give you mpg gains at the fuel pump. a chip can literally payfor itself in less then a year.

If you you , don't get speeding tickets, and learn how to go easy on the pedal with a chip.
you also should get an egt guage at the minimum...but chips are great.

i used to be just like you till i realized how much more power you can get when you do it right. trust me if i want to i can still smoke out the cars behind me to where they cant see but once the turbo is spooled why do you want that much smoke? so you can tare up your truck? how old are you any way 16. you will learn one day when you have to pay to fix what you thought was so cool.
