Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

I was wondering if it matters if the line leaks a bit. I went to Ace Hardware and got two barbs for the right hose size, and a connecter that connects the two threaded barbs. this fitting also has a threaded top so I can screw the right tap into it to tap the line. these are all brass fittings..

If the fitting leaks what are the issues? I have no real way of testing it but im sure it leaks a bit. I didn't want to use teflon tape cause I didn't want to ruin teh map sensor.

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

Your boost gauge won't read correctly, it will read low. I guess it depends where it leaks from?

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

can I use teflon tape on the pieces I have? There wasn't a "one piece" part taht would allow me to tap the line.. I had to use multiple parts..

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

i have used teflon tape on one of my trucks and never had a issue thus far, and if your connection leaks your killing yourself in two areas.........inaccurate readings and loss of boost pressure to the motor......you should also replace those cheap ford quick clamps on the boost line itself to keep those from leaking as well.......and depending on your mod future yuou would do well to put a boost relief valve in place of your new t-connector

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

you wioll never no if it leaks and it wont leak any way.you dont need anything on them.it is air not feul and it is so small of a leak it could not be mesured.dont wory about it.it is not what you would call a boost leak.

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

I agree with Wunder here. It will have no affect on the engine's airflow. The amount of air that would pass through the threads of a fitting is minuscule. The Ford quickie clamps are more than adequate for 1/4" hose. If you use 5/16" you may have to use a worm clamp since it's actually too big for the barb.

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

Just finished installing my gauges. I took it for a run and am only reading MAx 14 pSI boost with the autometer 'z' gauge. I have changed the exhaust to an MBRP 4" turbo back and a K&N air intake. Other than that truck is stock 100k miles. Is this # OK?

If it bugs you, THIS will clean up the install.

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

That piece that Dennis is pointing out is a nice one. You can see pics of it installed on my truck in my sig (along with ITP's boost regulator), in the Performance Mods album.

PS - Dennis.... pics of the ATS and Banks big head in my sig, too. Thanks again...

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

If you are planning the AIH delete, then you can get the plug from blackcloud diesel. This also got rid of my rattle in my isspro.

Re: Tapping Map Sensor Boost line

finished install... dieselpowerproducts is going to send me a T- fitting that im going to swap out.. everything works great... saw max boost of 18 psi right near the end of my gear..

only thing that was weird was my egt was about 400 when I parked, then I let it idle cause I thought I heard something in the engine compartment (other than the clanking of the engine) and was looking around, got back to my truck and the EGT was up around 550 or so.. whats that about?
