Teflon, pipe compound, thread sealant for oil filter bypass fittings?

I'm installing an oil bypass filter system using the oil ports currently on the 7.3L.

When installing the fittings for the bypass, do you use anything to seal the threads or prevent any type of thread corrosion?

Is teflon tape recommended? Can it handle the engine temperatures? Can it handle oil?

Is there something else better than teflon tape that I should consider?

Or is using nothing at all okay? Most oil drain plugs don't have teflon or even a gasket.

There is a Teflon tape that is fuel and oil safe. I used it for the fittings when I installed the regulated fuel system on my truck, also on the fitting of my trans temp sender. It was yellow instead of white and I picked it up at the local parts store. Pretty cheap if my memory is correct. You are right that there is no sealant on the drain plug but it also see's very little pressure, unlike an oil or fuel line. For me it was cheap insurance to prevent any leaks and to not have to do it over again. jmho

You don't need sealant/tape on the hose side of the fittings, but you do need it on the block side of those fittings. Even the manual says it doesn't matter. Just don't wrap the first 1 or 2 threads (1st ones to go in and get threaded) with either. I used tape and it works great.

I never use tape on oil or fuel lines. Only teflon paste.

Don't know how true this is but I heard from a plumber that pipe dope and teflon tape do not really seal anything, they just provide lubrication of the threads to enable a tight enough fit to seal the connection.
