time for a tuner, which one?

Hey all I am looking at getting a tuner for my truck, but am having a hard time on deciding which one. I like the PHP F.U. Chip Package - Blank Multi-Position Chip and Burner http://dygytalworld.ehost-services139.com/php/FU_Chip_Package.html .
the DP F6 tuner looks good to, but I don't have any gauges and so I was thinking maybe it would be just as well to go with the Edge, any one have any pro's /con's about these? is there a better one yet out there? thanks.

Usually a "tuner" is a programmer, not a chip.

You mentioned PHP, but then a chip and not his Gryphon tuner/programmer.

The three big boys in tuner/programmers right now are:

1] Bill at PowerHungaryPeformance and his Gryphon programmer. The Gryphon is the same hardware as the Edge Evolution II, so it's not as much a newcomer as the name implies. That one has gauges as well as your choice of Bill's custom tunes.

2] Jody at DP-Tuner sells the SCT X3 programmer. It comes with stock SCT off-the-shelf tunes, but Jody can install your choice of his DP-Tuner tunes for a small extra cost. I think it has gauges too, but you need to confirm that before you order.

3] The Edge Evolution II programmer also has gauges, but generic off-the-shelf tunes that cannot be changed.

3a] And I think Edge still sells the old Evolution I like mine, with off-the-shelf tunes that can no longer be upgraded to DP-Tuner tunes the way mine is. The Evo I does NOT include gauges, but it does include code reader/eraser.

You can buy the Edge products from any Edge dealer. One is
Diesel Innovations - Edge Products

A multi-position chip is a different animal. Lots of folks sell those, but the good tunes are by DP-Tuner, Tony Wildman, PHP, BTS and a few others. And if you want race-winning tunes after $10,000 to $15,000 worth of hot-rod mods, then I'd go to David at DI. David has been there, done that with SnowWhite. Anyone that claims to be a race-winning tuner that hasn't found the limits by melting at least one engine can't compete with David. Yes, SnowWhite has gone through more than one engine.

this is something I have been interested in also

I am debating on whether to get a DP with 60 tow 80 econ and 120 race or get the edge evolution 2

I dont race my truck. All I want is some extra power for towin about 10k pounds and havin fun on the streets... Only other mods would be intake and exhaust and possibly a x wheel. Dont want to get into hpop mods or injectors or turbos...

Why is it time for a tuner? Power dropping off? Could it be time for a repair first?

I love my Edge Evolution for $450, but if I had it to do over, I would go with the PHP Gryphon, just for the custom tuning for the extra $100 or so.

Yea, BUT:
Didn't Bill get started in this tuning "business" at Superchips?
Didn't Bill initially get Jody into the business?
Didn't Bill go over to Edge and help them move on to the next level?
Didn't Bill work with Matt in getting him into the tuning business?
Didn't Jody work with Cale in the beginning and get him set up?

Not sure of the others.

Not too sure, but it seems that the Big Three seem to have crossed paths at one point in time or another.

I guess the "Real Big Boys" are just the most popular at the time (until some jackazz smokes a motor, then they will be the "worst tuners out there, adding too much timing, too much ICP pressure, too much fuel....and blah, blah, blah). Ten years ago, you never heard of these guys.....it seems that in this "business" you are only as good as your last success.

I like them all.....seems that the competition just makes them better.

If you are looking for great customer service, smooth, quiet and safe tunes, I would strongly consider Bill's tunes from PHP.
