Trans Temp Gauge for Maual Transmission???

I have a 99 powerstoke w/ manual 6 speed tranny.

I Just ordered a set of ISSPRO EV gauges for my truck, I will be installing these this week, anyways I have found out that the Manual transmission does not have the port that the trans temp sender screws into, also have been told that the manual doesn't need to be monitored(not as important than on an automatic). I called Diesel Manor back and they told me to install I should pull the PTO cover and drill and tap that. My questions is this, Should I install this gauge or use the extra spot on the pillar for the DP tuner switch that I hope to order soon? any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Personally i would not bother monitoring the temperature of a manual. But for those that tow religiously or are on the highway all of the time it might not be a bad idea.

BUT you have to know what a normal operating temp is for the manual gearbox. Monitoring the temp of a manual is in line with trying to monitor the temp of a differential. Not really worth the effort.

FWIW, I have a temp probe in both the tranny (ZF6) and the diff. Having just finished towing 1600 miles this past wek, I can tell you the temps I experienced. For the Tranny, the highest I saw was 150F and for the Diff, I saw 180F. For the probe on the tranny, I removed the PTO cover and brazed bung on the plate to receive the probe. Pay attention to the positioning as there are some gears fairly close to the cover. As to their value, it gives oyu something to do enroute. I was particularly surprised at the temp of the diff. No wonder it requires synthetic oil.

I love watching gauges on a long trip, but i dont really do many long trips in the truck. It is interesting to see what the temps are but really important enough. Unlike EGTs and Boost.
