Lightbulb turbo searching...thoughts, advice?

Okay I've been lurking for some time and only recently posting...


part 1 intake: I've pretty much settled on the tymar mod with the wix/napa/donaldson etc setup. Gonna fine the local napa and o-rielly price on the filter and clamps... got a shop in mind for the remnent of 4 inch pipe;

part 2 : exhaust idea - made my post elsewhere on the topic at hand...

part 3 : exhaust upgrade for the international part number as its starting to show a leak in the up pipes. referencing this secondary search i did from a unscheduled *reboot*:

I shall turn my focus to the turbo itself.
The trucks birth certificate on the door says:
Date 04/98
Vin 1ftsx30f2xea54696

side note: anyone have a secret decoder ring from a crackerjack box to help me understand the vin?


I'm also wanting to know where to look or from where the wisdom flows regarding this *as yet, to me* undiscovered data -- are there different sized turbos (OEM only) from 1999 to 2003 on the 7.3L psd?
IF SO, how does one tell if I've supposedly have a small one? here is one thread that makes me curious:

You're truck was built before 12/7/98... So that would make it an early 99.

If you are looking for a drop in upgrade then a D66 would be a good unit to purchase. Flows as much air (or more) than stock, and drops right in place of the stock turbo with no modifications.

Cool nope...

not exactly.

I guess my geeky *l337 skillz* are rusty. Tht and must be my dyslexic/ADHD brain wasn't clear enough. (sigh)

I was wanting info not a way to throw more then a grand at a as-yet-unanswered-question or two that I guess I should try to rewrite. (heavy sigh)

[paused to RE-READ my first post]...thinks..... nope, I believe I've actually worded the questions as concisely and as minimally verbose as I can.


I guess I'll patiently wait and see when other (just as busy) folks get a chance to slide over to this forum on their spare time during the rest of the week.

(now to go prep the garage for the laundry-list of activities on my "plate")
1. ball joints R&R (within the next 7 days I hope)
2. exhaust leak repair/upfitment (when will this occur? soon...)
3. new front tire for Her SV650s
4. new T-belt kit for the TDI Jetta and check brakes

and that's just my "priority list" LOL
how many of you guy's(& gal's) here look forward to scheduling the annual physical? Yeah and I gotta setup the appt. at the VA hospital (rolls eyes at the joy awaiting me there!)

/end tangent sorry for the babbling we now return you to the normal sound of compression combustion systems, a little soot, and the smeel of Napalm int the morning (smirks)

That is how you tell if you have the little one..... It was built before 12/7/98

That is what makes it the small one.

FWIW, I was just trying to help you, not make you spend over 1000.00

Not much you can do to the early 99's without at least 1000.00 worth of mods, thats all i'm saying
