upgrade intercooler ? ? ?

I have a 2000 p/s and was about to do the 6.0 intercooler in 7.3 mod. My question, now, after doing some measuring,is it really going to help. If my figures are correct, there is 1065 cu.in.in the 7.3 and 1216 cu.in. in the 6.0 intercooler. Is this small difference of 152 cu.in. going to make any difference in the cooling of the air from the turbo?
I was going to do this mod based on replies on other forums as an inexpensive way of additional cooling. Really confused, now.
Thanks for your replies.

if your egt's are running consistantly at max temp, then the cooler will help. 50* is about the difference you will see. that can be big deal while pulling trailers in the hills. i personally spent the big money and got an after market. i bought the diesel innovations. why gamble? pulling warped exhaust manifolds is not a fun job, i speak from experience.

I think it made a significant difference in EGTs on mine. I cannot get it over about 1250 on the longest hard mountain pull. Most times it wont get over 1100. It made a noticeable difference in acceleration....

6.0 Intercooler In 7.3

This a follow-up on your reply, on what I posted,in regard to 6.0 intercooler in a 7.3. Can you get me the measurement of the 6.0 intercooler you used? I bought a used one and the core is narrower, by4in.than the 7.3 but it is higher and thicker. Is there more than one type? I am trying to figure out if it is worth the effort of exchanging them.
Thanks for your reply

I've always heard you're really not going to see much of a difference unless you do a lot of towing. If youre just driving it, its really not worth the time and money.

I haven't done the swap so I can't give any actual numbers. I can tell you that cubic inches of CAC volume is not what you need to consider. A 12"x12"x12" CAC would have a lot of volume but would not be very efficient. The surface area is important, height is better than width, and the front half of a CAC is more efficient than the back half (a 2" core will not cool twice as well as a 1" core).

Thanks for the reply. So what is the big deal. The 7.3 is 30in.wide X18in.high=540sq.in. the 6.0 is 25.75in. wide X 21in. high=540.75. The only difference is thickness of .25in.
Is there something I am missing?

Maybe, have you noticed that the radiator core on a 7.3 radiator is wider than the distance between the tanks on a 6.0 CAC?

Thanks. The 7.3 is about 4in. wider than the 6.0. My question is, will the 6.0 cool better,it is narrower but higher and thicker than the 7.3.(maybe because the core tubing is shorter, but more of them,it will flow more air.) The truck is used, mostly towing.
Please, your comments. Thanks

More tubes is good. I would be surprised if it doesn't cool a little better. Towing heavy, I wouldn't install one without having a real coolant temp gauge. I would want to see if it had an effect on the coolant temp.

Are you drawing intake air from the engine compartment? If yes, you can lower temps by changing that.

After that there is different tuning.

And regardless of your combination, you need RPM's to stay cool.

Without the CCV mod I have wondered if just cleaning the intercooler would help. Probably a lot of oil in there. How hard would it be to pull it out and clean with a good degrreaser and water?

I think its a pretty involved process to get that thing out of there and clean it up. You have to essentially flush it and then let it sit all day to make sure it gets good and dry.

Seems like I remember someone saying you have to use a prybar to get it out? Id be itnerested to see if people have done it and how hard it is
