Re: Who has BEST aftermarket turbo for 7.3?

It all depends on what you are going to do. You need to sit down and figure out how far you are going to go for power. Then you pick the turbo for the mods you do.

Re: Who has BEST aftermarket turbo for 7.3?

Like they said. You can add a huge lung to it, but if you don't have the fuel to spin it there is no point. Tell us what mods you have or are planning on doing??

Re: Who has BEST aftermarket turbo for 7.3?

get you some injectors, size that is good for stock HPOP, and the new turbo and could possibly be at that time

Re: Who has BEST aftermarket turbo for 7.3?

also what year is ur truck the reason why i am askin is b/c what rods u have. if you have an early one with forger you are safe, but if you have pmr's u are SOL! You are gonna need to change those and add head studs before you window your block!

Re: Who has BEST aftermarket turbo for 7.3?

Re: Who has BEST aftermarket turbo for 7.3?

More than likely you have PMRs... But there are SOME 2001 trucks out there that made it out of the factory with Forged rods.
I would check to make sure.

Re: Who has BEST aftermarket turbo for 7.3?

Well if you want your truck to run 8.60 in the 1/8 that is pretty darn fast so you will have to have fuel...injectors, fuel supply, programming, etc and then you will need plenty of air to burn that fuel and then you will need a tranny to transfer that power to the rears to move that truck to a 8.6. So..this could be some good hp and may be putting you in the danger zone for PMRs. I would say you are looking at at least 440-475 hp needed to run 8.6 in the 1/8 mile with a good launch which would put you in the mid 13's in 1/4 mile. I am fairly confident that 400 hp or under will not get you an 8.6 in the 1/8 mile and anything over 400 hp on PMRs is considered dangerous for those rods. I may be off with that guesstimation so take it for what it is worth

Good Luck with whatever you choose

Since everyone else is avoiding the question here goes. Your best choice is a Garrett ball bearing turbo. You have to decide if it is worth it to you. You should be able to buy one for about $1450. You can modify the stock one for less but it will not be as good.

My honest answer is "I don't know"

If you change your compressor housing, compressor wheel, turbine housing, and balance your turbo you could easily spend $1000. You will still not have the ball bearing rotating assy or the 88mm compressor wheel.
