JW or BTS I would say, (I Love BTS,, but I am a bit Biased)

Shouldn't need allot of popcorn,, probably only going to be two main competitors, BTS and JW,, Pappy will chime in with his "Sunny Coast" Transmissions I imagine, (Nothing against those either,) never dealt with anyone but BTS on the 4R100. AND I LIKELY WON'T EITHER!

BTS RULES!!

IMO if the trans has a suncoast kit or a set of alto red clutches and kolene steels with the correct valve body upgrades and a good billet torque converter completed by a GOOD REPUTABLE trans rebuild facility or technician it is as good as it will get for a 4R100/E40D ( but the key is they need to have lots of experience in trans modifications with sucess ) I know JW , BTS , And ATS are all good but a good local rebuilder "should be able" to give the same results as them

i second that. Imagine if we didn't have the internet..we'd have to actually get our trans's done at normal shops! I'm glad that JW is starting to hold it down on this site..it's been very one sided for a long time in here

"DR" IT will NOT happen, no way, no how. Just the kits won't get it to the level BRIAN does, (Or JW either I think) Both machine new parts for the internals, Clutch housing and several others. To MUCH Tighter tolerances than stock.

Brian asks only one thing for you NOT to do. (Other than common sense stuff, neutral drops, ect...) He asks that you do NOT go from reverse to drive without coming to a complete stop. (How most of us back out of the drive, still rolling ever so slightly backwards, and drop it in "D") HE said his are so much tighter, there is no "SLACK" for any of the parts and he would rather you didn't do it. (Have I? Sure, it's a HARD habbit to break) Would he fix it if it breaks from that,, I have every confidence he would. (Oh, and my trans is now going on something like 6 yrs old.....) In it's second truck!

YOU FIND A LOCAL SHOP who will stand behind their product, after you move it from one vehicle to another, and it's almost 4 yrs out of their "WARRANTY" if you want to call it that.. his is not a "WARRANTY" his is confidence in his product!
With a "Handshake" Better than ANY piece of paper.

The "best" is BTS hands down, and no need for popcorn. JW builds a good unit, and has many happy customers. ATS, avoid at all costs! ATS has many completely DISsatisfied customers. How about a tough question, and we can get out the popcorn. Yeah, and what Jim said!

Oh geez, hands down? We all are fans of our trans builders. the "best" in your eyes may be the BTS, but in mine..i've seen special parts that go into a JW, that he builds IN-HOUSE, that i think made a superior product. He doesn't have many happy customers..he has tons of them..most of them hard working farm trucks..with owners who don't come on the internet. Not only that, he goes to Glamis and knows the So cal clientele and their specific needs. The majority of the towing i do is within an hour of his shop. (colorado river and Glamis).

No one is ever going to win this debate, but i'm just trying to get the word out there that in this great nation of ours, there is more than one trans builder worth going to. My truck sat in my garage for a couple of months with a broken tranny until i made my decision. Honestly, I saved a lot of money with the shipping hassle, and did not want to trust some shop out here with the install. YES< i could have done it myself but just did not want to deal with the hassle.

Hey, at least we can agree that the 6.0 coolers work good! Not only that, JW is someone i could go drink beer with, has dyno events at his shop, and you can pull up your RV there and party it up!

Hey guys,
I am here in Vegas this week for bike week, I pulled my 44' enclosed trailer with 10 fully dressed Harleys out here from North carolina and Tennessee, I am in my 2002 F350 and the transmission is on its way out, started getting hot and seal leaking, keep adding fluid, but now with trailer on it it overheats to the point of "CHECK GAUGES" light comes (275 degrees) on within 5 minutes, but with trailer off, it doesnt over heat, Question is this, I wanted to use BTS since I am based out of Tenn., but I just picked up this truck 3 weeks ago, and wasnt ready to have to do it yet, and im now on the west coast,
Does Brian have installers on the west coast? or Where in SoCal is this "JW" some of you are talking about??? Going to try and drive it into SoCal this Tuesday (no trailer) but need to find a good west company, or I will just leave it at the house in SoCal and come back out next month and resuce it and put it on a trailer and tow it back to Arkansas to BTS.
Thanks for any help and info in advance.

John Wood is at Holtville, CA near El Centro. John should be able to get your transmission installed on the same day you go down there as long as you schedule ahead with him. I would also have him install a 6.0L trans cooler. Your 44' trailer likely weighs a lot and this cooler upgrade should help keep your temps down.

Won't matter to you. If you use a program that they don't approve or is not stock, you have no warranty. You would in fact be paying aftermarket prices for a stock warranty. No thanx.
